The perfect application?

Yes, I meant that if you hold the Ctrl key while clicking Apply, it’ll open the application page in a new browser window. You still check the dates and write your message as normal. By doing it that way, I don’t even have to read the whole post first; I can go between browser tabs to read and address the HO’s points in my personalized note.

I think hitting Apply and checking the box saves my place in line.

While I haven’t done it yet, I see the appeal in the very quick “placesetter” application followed by the real application. I use the idea of clicking “apply” to secure my spot but on a few occasions had HO respond that they really liked our app & profile but felt they needed to give the earlier applicants the chance first. I was #4 or 5 instead of 1 or 2. I had spent a few minutes going over their listing thoroughly and formulating an individualized application and it’s cost me sits.

I just had the following experience this morning…A very attractive & long sit popped up in Spain. Brand new -0 applicants. I showed the hubby straight away and when he clicked on it - on his own phone- already 1 applicant. I immediately clicked ‘apply’ on my phone to ‘save a space’ then decided to do the application properly on my laptop where I can more easily cut & paste & type etc. When I found the sit it was already ‘reviewing’! I was shocked that 5 people could have applied in those few short minutes between switching from phone to laptop!
When I went back on my phone and saw it still open on the ‘apply’ page I wrote a quick note expressing interest saying a proper application would follow & clicked send-and it went through! That’s the first time I’ve had a real opportunity to test that feature (save the space) with 2 appliances!
Anyway a minute later the host wrote- apologising profusely- saying it was a ‘system error’ and they’d only put the dates up to extend the sit for their current sitters!
So they declined us but we’ve at least established contact for a possible future sit which wouldn’t have happened if they hadn’t posted dates!

That is not strange. I suppose that you reacted to a push notification? Probably hundreds, maybe thousands went out at the same moment.

No -that’s not what happened (in this case)-
I explained above- the host had only added dates in order to extend for the current sitters. It was not actually meant as a real listing to attract new people and he should have just done it all privately with them.
I was also not responding to any notification. It was just a regular search of sits in Spain.

The main point I wanted to make was that if you open an application on one appliance- phone or a new window on a pc then it does seem to hold the space for you to apply/connect- at least for a while- As you yourself @pietkuip have often suggested to fellow sitters as a way to grab a space!

Actually that’s a very good idea. Yesterday we secured a rare sit in a very desired location by sending a video message.

Well done…and great that you went out of your way to do this. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:
Generally, the videos I received were fairly simple… Hi - my name is xyz I’m an experienced sitter having sat in many places this past year xyz. I’d love to be considered for this position as I’m reliable, quiet, home-loving, and especially love dogs…etc etc. I work from home… this is an enormous statement for me. Short, warm, and friendly.
As I’m the one with the house, desirable location, nice home usually inundated with responses. What stood out for me were the two who had completed a video. They don’t have to be flash but they can be quite insightful and helpful from the house owner’s perspective.
I stand by my points above and take note that I could add more photos of myself and my husband (They are on our profile) but the sitter is not house-sitting us…they are in my home and looking after my dog. I do supply photos of most of the rooms etc
I always interview at home and have around several times before going away.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Hi @BunnyCat How do we send a video message on TrustedHouseSitters platform?
I’ve can’t find any information about it in the Help section.

One can upload one’s video to “the cloud” (for example on Youtube) and include a link in one’s THS message.

You can use the mobile app to attach a photo or video.

or use a video sharing site like @pietkuip suggested.

I never knew that!

The beta version of messaging in the web interface now has a landscape icon, but nothing happens when I click on it. (Yet another fail.)

Me neither !
I can’t see any information about that in the help section.

Well spotted @pietkuip , I hadn’t noticed that!

The only thing that happens when you click on it is that it gets a thin TH teal coloured border around it!

As an owner I never would upload a foto from me. THS is public and I appreciate discretion.

I wouldn’t publish my house from the outside with the name of the city with all the interior rooms and a photo of myself as well - that’s just going way too far.

That doesnt work on my Android app. The initial application box has no option to attach anything.

I do get a photo icon when i send subsequent nessages via the app, but clicking on that icon only links to the photos in my device, not to videos.

I will need to send a URL to a file-sharing service if I want to send a video, as @pietkuip suggests

You might be better off with a paid site. On THS you need to show your home. It is the cost of trying to get sitters for free.

@pietkuip a home owner has sent me some photos which I can see in my inbox in the Android app. On the beta test inbox, it displays the text “images are coming soon” where the photos should be.

@Coclico
Inyeresting. So what information and what kind of photos do you actually post?

Obviously my message wasn’t clear, I’m not english speaking.

I have a lot of fotos of the house, outside and inside and of course of the pets. But not from me. The combination house, pets, name of the city AND me is too much.

In the first videocall of course one will see me.
