Yes, I sometimes wonder about habits/ things, which I do different. But I see it as “there is also another way I can do it.” “Why do they do it this way?” Is that also something I would want?"
A sit 5 years ago, with a cat who pooped on the floor (= outside the litter box) every day, and often it was loose stool as well. And then not being able to find any cleaning products in the house!
That’s my biggest beef too! I’m SO tired of struggling to find general purpose cleaning sprays, good bleach (because let’s be honest, own-brands watery stuff just doesn’t work) or indeed anything for dealing with thick kitchen grease. And - OMG! - bin bags!
My current HO is a total sweetie, but I’ve just spent 30 mins looking for bags for the kitchen bin… Failed. And tomorrow is collection day.
I wish some HOs could take a step back and put themselves in sitters’ shoes. Yeah, sure, you know that your last garbage sack is hidden at the back of the third drawer from the left next to the sink…But we don’t.
Pet peeves: ONLY instant coffee. Terrible stuff that! If the coffee machine is from the next millenium I would like the instruction book. Failing that, I’d google it to find instructions online.
Rock hard pillows that give me a sore neck. Generally speaking, old worn out household items that barely work are a huge problem. I know these things can get costly, but people should just upgrade when their can openers get worn out, the sheets are threadbare, the pillows are rock hard.
Have almost always found that the knives were blunt with a couple of rare exceptions, one being the home of a chef. Bin bag storage is not universally found under the sink and we’ve had to hunt high and low. The more posh the house is the less chance of finding a microwave and the more chance the freezer will be hidden somewhere - possibly in an entirely separate building. And as others have mentioned, lack of hand wash and loo roll so we now always bring our own as well as a eco cleaning spray and cloths.
Running out of dog good !
sometimes they leave money and ask if I’ll pick it up. Usually no problem, until I go to pick it up and they are out of that brand. Now either have to search and try to figure out who carries it or change your dogs food which I don’t like to do…
C’mon you know you are traveling be courteous and prepared !
on one sit we could not figure out how to change the tv channel so no tv available. . Finally, asked via what’s app… I was told the dog ate the remote … ok thanks
Definetely dirty dishes in dishwasher and Christmas sit there was even a clothes washing machine running, plenty of clothes drying, so I had to fold the dried ones and also hang the washed ones.
And as mentioned above, not working vacuums and even not having a proper broom when the vacuum aint work.
On the coffee we bring our own moka pot and our own coffee everywhere we go, our last one they weren’t coffee drinkers so good thing we had it!
I hate not finding stuff also, on one sit they’ve left us with such a complicated tv (and no instructions) that for half the sitting we didn’t watch tv other than on our laptop until I figured out how to use it (and the remote without batteries and not a battery to be found ).
An odd one: no shower gel in the shower, only one bar soap (in the ONLY bathroom), and I’m not touching that!
And the most annoying one, finding cameras around the house, not specified in the welcome guide
No, not all cans have ring-pulls. And even if 99% do, how maddening when you’re salivating over the contents of that 1%…! Openers are dirt cheap. I’m based in the UK and here, I’d expect any house to have one. And one that bloomin’ WORKS, too!
My biggest irritations are when HO doesn’t answer my questions/get annoyed/irritated and just believe that everything is very logical and should be known already. Or answer:’I place everything on or beside the table’. And you feel that the discussion is over.
Or when I am asking for their expectations when it comes to updates/pictures and they answer: ‘Do as you want’
And because it doesn’t happens so much, I send a weekly update and later they complained that it was way too often for a 1 month sit.
I sometimes dog sit together with a person who truly needed a plunger, I didn’t even know what a plunger was before that!
