TrustedHousesitters - Helping The People & Animals Of Ukraine

URGENT INFORMATIONAL POST - SUPPORTING THE PEOPLE & ANIMALS IN UKRAINE

A GENTLE REMINDER THIS IS NOT A POST FOR DISCUSSION ON UKRAINE IT IS SOLELY FOCUSSED ON THE HUMANITARIAN NEEDS OF THOSE AFFECTED … THANK YOU

Our thoughts and support are with all of those affected by the heartbreaking situation in Ukraine: the people, pets and those working under unimaginable circumstances to bring help and care to humans and animals. :yellow_heart::blue_heart:

Because the situation is so desperate it can be difficult to know where or how to help. We have been working with those currently in the area and with their help identified some of the animal shelters and humanitarian charities in desperate need. If you know of any other organizations please add them into the comments

On behalf of the TrustedHousesitters Team we have made cash donations to these charities and below share the list of organisations and on-the-ground volunteers, if you are able to make a donation thank you. Any amount will help make a difference :flag-ua:

A message to our TrustedHousesitters Members, when you make a donation to any of these organisations, or a Ukrainian charity of your choice, forward the official receipt to community@trustedhousesitters.com and we will boost your donation by $5.00

Additionally we will be matching all donations from TeamTrusted

For two days I have been talking via messenger with Marina (image top right) Wonderland Animal Shelter Redirecting... her messages are heartbreaking. She has escaped the worn torn town she called home, her animal shelter destroyed, taking her 18 cats and three dogs and is now in Kiev, she has no clothes other than what she stands up in, very little food and is desperately trying to find a way to get to Poland, with her beloved rescue animals … #StandWithUkraine

Will make a few donations tonight, it’s all so utterly heartbraking :sob:

I am a member of a group on FB who are doing a really good job of coordinating physical help, it may be worth a try for her. I won’t post a link but it’s Ukraine Animal Rescue Information.

I know it’s not necessarily related to pet sitting, but I thought, as there are lots of people here with an AIRBNB account, and in case anybody would like to help people in the Ukraine directly, and doesn’t know what to do, this is what I just found on Facebook. I think it’s a brilliant idea.

If this topic isn’t wanted here, please close or delete it.

I saw that too. Do the owners then give the rooms to Ukrainian refugees who are trying to get to safety?

Thank you for sharing @anon39388349 we will leave this open. If anyone has links to other ways of giving practical help and support to those affected by this tragic situation please feel free to post.

This is a post for help and charitable content contributions only and is NOT open for any discussions outside of humanitarian intent.

"We are so humbled by the inspiring generosity of our community during this moment of crisis,” Airbnb Communications Director Liz DeBold Fusco, told The Post. “Airbnb is temporarily waiving guest and Host fees on bookings in Ukraine at this time.”

“We also encourage anyone interested in getting involved with Airbnb.org to go to airbnb.org/help-ukraine, and support Airbnb.org’s initiative to provide housing to refugees fleeing Ukraine, by becoming a Host or donating,” DeBold added. “To date, we have seen an overwhelming response to this effort, with more than 357,000 visitors to this page.”

I think it’s a way to get money to people who can’t go to work and/or their home was destroyed. But who knows if there are any owners who would let refugees stay in their rooms. I guess they do.

At the moment the help for Ukrainian refugees is overwhelming.
I just came back from the airport, where a colleague is about to drive with a truck to Poland and on to the Ukrainian border, taking blankets, pillows, medical and hygiene supplies.
He posted yesterday on Facebook that, if anybody wants to donate, to come between 8 and 10.30m…and this is what happened:

It was so much that 16 additional vans spontaneously decided to join the truck for getting everything to Poland, where it will be distributed.
@Angela_L thank you for not deleting the post and for asking not to start any discussions.:pray:t3::pray:t3::pray:t3:

OK great, that makes sense! Thanks for sharing.

I heard about this but wonder if they’ll actually be able to get the money as I doubt the banks will be open. I prefer to donate to official DEC, but appreciate that money won’t go directly to the people. A difficult call

I asked the same question but a colleague of mine who is in contact with people in the Ukraine says it definitely works.

I also saw this. Thought it was related but must be different.

Yes, I think this is from the AirBnB official site and the idea for “renting” in the Ukraine in order to donate money directly to the owner is simply a creative idea to support people there. Of course, if you don’t know the people there, you would have to trust them to help others in case they don’t need it themselves.

This is the official Airbnb link Airbnb.org - Host people fleeing Ukraine which is a different initiative this is housing for refugees …

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the heartbreaking conflict in Ukraine, all of the innocent victims, their friends, families and loved ones

No, The idea is to book rooms in Ukraine telling the owners you have no intention of staying but you wanted to donate directly to a citizen.

I usually buy some items on Etsy from Ukraine and since the war started I have been in touch with all who I bought from in Ukraine to show my support. One shop ‘StarWatchCat’ (who has moved to a safer location and is helping her fellow citizens from there) has a download image of support which you can purchase for a small amount.

Also…be aware of scammers contacting you directly and mentioning ‘Bitcoin’.

Here are other appeals to help animals in Ukraine…

Global Compassion Fund PETA (helping in animals Ukraine)

Centrum Adopcyjne “Ada” in Poland (helping get animals out of Ukraine to Poland)

Warriors of Wildlife (trying to relocate a bear trapped in Ukraine)

Kyiv Zoo updates (some animals were transported out of Ukraine…some had to be left behind)

I donated to PETA and my partner donated to IFAW. Both are providing support to Ukraine. We donated separately to Glasgow the Caring Society and the DEC appeals. The terror for people and animals is almost unimaginable and this was the most practical help we could provide to the brave people trying to save human and animal lives. There is a huge Trusted House Sitters community based on trust who adore their pets. Many will be of the same mind and already helping in their own way and together we can do more.
