Hi @QuiltingDogMama
What a great name and welcome to the forum.
You can search the forum to see if your question has been asked before posting. It has been discussed a lot. Here are some earlier posts which might assist, but there are many more. I put ‘use of car’ into the search box:
Hi Everyone, this is my first time using this site and I have had 2 sitters apply for the job which I didn’t expect because I have 2 big dogs. One of the sitters asked if they could use my car (I did say in the advert that my dogs are used to being driven to the oval so I understand why this would have been suggested) I don’t have a problem with this if it was a crappy car, but it isn’t. I’m more concerned about how to get the sitters to pay the excess should they have an accident, I have said…
I’ve received some good sitters but they don’t have a vehicle. Nowadays the rentals are very expensive. They’ve asked to use my car for local trips. This makes me nervous because of liability or if they got into an accident (esp since there are a lot of deer in the area). How many HOs allow their sitters to use their cars? I believe my insurance covers someone driving but there’s always the deductible, etc. Would prefer not to loan the car but don’t want to lose the sitters. One of the applicant…
I had an extensive look but did NOT find the following question answered:
Do you do any kind of WRITTEN agreement with a sitter who you have granted use of your car to about how the cost of the deductible will be handled in the unlikely event of some damage to the car while in their care/use.
(I’ve seen some that some folks have a ‘verbal’ agreement… )
Yes, I have insurance. yes they are covered, yes they have a valid DL - but if, in the unlikely, off chance, something happens while they are …
I’ve searched and can’t find my answer. To those home owners who have allowed the use of your car to your sitter (I live in the US and my sitter is from the US), what are your suggestions on what I should focus on. If you have an example of a contract I’d be interested. I’ve already checked with my insurance for coverage. I’m thinking more along the lines of, if something happens should my sitter be responsible for the deductible? What if the accident is their fault? Should they pay for the dama…
We are looking at House/Pet sits in British Columbia. Canada. We usually use the pet parent’s car when we have sat in the US. Australia, New Zealand and Mexico. I have NOT seen the owner’s offer use of their car in any BC postings. Does BC have restrictive rules or regulations on the insurance policies? Is there an option to be added to owner’s policy? Does anyone have experience with this in BC?
