Over the past few days, I have binge watched the first six episodes of ‘A Thousand Blows’.
It’s from the same person who created ‘Peaky Blinders’. From what I’ve seen, so far it hasn’t quite matched that very high bar, but it’s still pretty good.
‘1923’ (Yellowstone prequel) is back for it’s second series, so I’ll be tuning in to watch that soon.
Also on my ‘to watch’ list are; ‘Reacher’ s3 and ‘Will Trent’ s3
Two based on reality films (at theaters now) -
The Girl with the Needle a Danish (mostly) production set in immediate post WW1 Copenhagen. Very, very dark and not too uplifting. But got an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Film and has a lot of awards for the look. B&W, Danish with English subtitles.Netflix
I’m Still Here (Brazilian) The story of a family and its path through the Brazilian dictatorship of the early 1970s. This one is pretty uplifting, but not ‘feel good.’ Also an Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Film - and surprisingly, playing at some of the chain multiplex theaters. Portuguese with English subtitles.
And a bit more - streaming TV now -
The full first season of Red Election, 10 episodes on Hulu. Beware, you will be left hanging at the end.
First episode of Zero Day on Netflix.
Both are political/spy and are scary given what is going on around the world!
**Every spring thousands of fish swim through Utrecht’s canals and waterways, searching for a place to spawn and reproduce. In the heart of the city lies the beautiful Weerdsluis, a manually operated lock. When the lock gates are closed, fish are forced to wait, wasting valuable time and energy – making them easy prey for birds and predatory fish. To help the fish, an underwater camera is installed at the lock. If fish appear on screen, you can press the doorbell! This alerts the lock keeper, who will open the lock when many fish are waiting. **
I visited here when I was in Seattle. The salmon ladders are adjacent to the locks so the fish can navigate through whether or not the locks are open.
The doorbell idea is charming
Ah - theres a salmon ladder near where I live too. I like the idea of helping the fish - and its less expensive than creating a ladder for them, and I’m not sure if other fish leap like salmon do.
I’ve found lots of thing on Tubi - far more that I expected.
Also sharing the web site justwatch.com or app justwatch. Very good directory to search for where streaming - free and paid is available. And you can set your search country.
I watched Flow (Oscar-Winning Animated Movie) now streaming on MAX. I don’t have MAX so I watched while pet sitting. In the U.S. I liked it .
I’ve been reading that “Flow Has Pets All Over Glued to the Screen”
Bruce watched a few minutes.
I cannot wait to watch Flow! We have recently visited Riga and whilst we were there the city of Riga held a reception for the Oscar winning filmmakers of the animated film Flow. It was a spectacular evening held at the foot of the Monument of Freedom. They have even put a statue of Flow on the Riga sign at the foot of the Freedom Monument.
I’ve watched all the episodes of “ When life gives you tangerines.” A Korean epic about family life and generational influences. I enjoyed it. Not too profound lol
I’ve just finished the most recent season of The White Lotus - anyone else watched it? I won’t share any spoilers but I was most disappointed with the ending
