Next to a topic title is the number of replies to that post. I’ve been trying to figure out what the different colours signify. Colours might be different on different screens, but I see numbers in black, orange, brown and tan. I think blue is the number of posts since I last visited that topic. And some topic titles are grey.
Please help put my insomniac brain to rest!!!

That’s an interesting question!
When a number has a blue bubble around it, that means the topic has that number of new replies that you’ve not read since last interacting with the topic.
A black number means fairly low “like” to reply ratio for the topic.
Brown means that the post has a high amount of “likes” in relation to the replies it has.
Orangey brown means that the post has a very high amount of “likes” in relation to the replies it has.
Orange means that the post has an extremely high amount of “likes” in relation to the replies it has.
Basically, the more “likes” a topic has, the more it’s seen as a useful topic.
Top tip - if you hover over the coloured number it tells you how high the “like” to reply ratio is

What I would like to know is, what does the little envelope 
sign mean that appears on some people’s posts or replies?

This is one I don’t recall coming across in the (nearly!) year that I’ve been here, but I checked with our platform provider’s community, and it sounds like the envelope emoji means that the person who posted has done so via email rather than directly on the Forum e.g. if they had an email notification of a reply to a topic, and they replied to the email rather than coming directly to the Forum.
