Hi. Looking at a lot of sits, but many have sitter “reviews” without any comments at all. What does that mean?
Not sure I’m understanding your question fully. If you mean the sitter didn’t leave a review? This can happen if the sitter is being passive aggressive as often no review is seen as a red flag by other sitters.
It can also happen (I think) if the sitter isn’t on the platform any longer or have requested their data to be removed.
If you mean they left stars with no comments? The stars should be enough to get a feel for the sit. Also in the past reviews weren’t blind so in those days some didn’t leave reviews to avoid retaliatory reviews. Now reviews are blind.
If you can see that there was a sit that happened, but there was no review left, I take these as an orange flag.
It’s not always the case - some users just miss the 2 week window - but it can mean that there was some kind of problem or misunderstanding and the user tried to avoid leaving a bad review.
If you go to the profile of the other party involved, you can sometimes find a negative review in that case - if lucky with a reply so you can read about both sides’ experience.
.
It’s annoying that these aren’t showing in the browser, just in the app. So it can happen that you confirm a sit and later notice you will be dealing with a “difficult host”.
As I understand it, stars-with-no-comments means the person has left the site AND requested their data be deleted, so all the words are gone and only stars remain ![]()
Thanks much.
So it seems there are a few possibilities. You would also think that a sitter could leave THS, remove their personal data (however that is done), but the review itself would remain. But that might be too complicated for the THS programmers (no further comment needed).
You mean the app actually has more information than the browser?
Yes, at least this is the case when it comes to the reviews section.
The mobile app will show you more content than the page in the browser.
On the app you will see “missing reviews”. No stars, no written feedback. Only the name of the sitter. These entries won’t be visible in the browser though.
I thought this was what you were asking about. But maybe it was just stars, no written feedback.
Yes, also the image captions are only visible in the app.
Hi. My question was about all the variables. And the new ones that pop up each day.
The app and website versions of a listing look different, feel different and don’t have the same material in certain places. Painful as it is to say, THS’s engineering testing and standards are very amateurish.
As regards reviews, be aware that listing profiles show all past sitters whether or not they reviewed the sit. You are left to decipher the significance (or lack) of missing reviews by sitters.
Missing reviews of sitters do not exist on THS. If a host does not review a sitter, the sit is not shown on a sitter’s profile. There is a difference between 20 reviews in 20 or 200 sits and there is no way to determine which is which. I recall that sitter profiles used to state the number of sits completed but that info silently disappeared a few years ago. But maybe I hallucinated that memory. THS features and tweaks are numerous enough and quiet enough that it regularly feels like I’m hallucinating.
does it also show past HO? I just did a sit and the owner texted me afterwards to thank me and hoped I would sit for them again sometime. But then didn’t leave a review. Does this show up for other HO to see on my profile as a sit without a review?
Yes, on the app (not website), it shows when a sit has happened and the host did not review.
@Maggie8k That is still only for the HO. But one cannot see missing reviews of sitters. A sitter without reviews is not necessarily a first-time sitter. They might be sitters where all previous hosts were not that happy but were reluctant to write their first review. This is the major safety problem for HOs on THS.
No, as @pietkuip points out, the lack of reviews only shows for HOs, not sitters and as @Maggie8K mentioned, it’s only on the app, not the website.
Yes. I was answering the question posed directly above my answer.
Your answer has me confused. You’re saying that sits where hosts did not review the sitter show up on the app as blanks (or ???) on the sitter’s profile? I don’t believe that’s correct based on earlier threads on this forum. I also scrolled through around 1000 host reviews of every sitter we’ve had and there were no blanks. I have a hard time believing 100% host compliance writing reviews. And, yes, I scrolled through using the app.
Sorry for any confusion or typo on my part.
Missing reviews from sitters show up on host profiles on the app only. This blank review for instance showed up on the third random host listing I pulled up just now:
Hi. This is exactly what i was talking about. So what could such non-reviews mean?
No way to tell for sure unless you happen to know the individuals and they tell their side. And even then, whom do you believe?
Someone could not write a review intentionally or maybe they just missed the deadline. Or they don’t routinely write reviews.
I look for patterns where possible. Like does a host have multiple missing reviews? Or iffy reviews by sitters? Or reviews where you can read between lines?
In the example, it just means that the sitter didn’t review. It could be interpreted as a red flag, meaning that there was an issue and the sitter doesn’t want to write a poor review but it could also have other explanations: the membership expired shortly after the sit and it wasn’t possible to review, the sitter forgot or was too busy, the sitter only gives great reviews and doesn’t bother with anything that doesn’t go above and beyond…
I try to track the sitter’s review history. Sometimes there’s a pattern.
