I’m a self confessed “gadget freak” and assumed I knew (and owned) most of them. What’s something you discovered?
Good topic! I know they are extremely common now, but it was in a housesit about 7 years ago that I first saw an Alexa smart-speaker and was pretty impressed.
Lately, in one kitchen, the HOs had a cheese-grater that came with a kind of drawer that the grated cheese fell into that you could slide out and then sprinkle the cheese. Very simple but effective idea that I’d never seen before.
Also, one house I regularly sit has an enormous indoor swimming pool, I’d love to get myself one of those
Not sure an indoor swimming pool is classed as a gadget but hey.
Spray mop!!!
Tell me more?
On one of our very first house sits, the owners had a Roomba. When we returned home we bought one - best gadget we’ve ever bought!
After about the third stay with a keyless entry lock, I came home and installed one, and can’t believe I lived without one for so long.
@Oztravels I hate handling mops, and it doesn’t seem to matter how advanced the ‘draining’ is, I just don’t get it right. Enter the spray mop: it has a built-in refillable little container, that you fill with water and detergent, and then you pull a trigger and it sprays a light misting of liquid on the floor, which you then mop up. It works a charm for me, I hardly ever have to ‘handle’ the wet bits, and you can tear it off and pop it in the washing machine. Something like this. The spray is actually really gentle.
Instant boiling water and/or sparkling water taps at the kitchen sink
I saw some bamboo toaster tongs and thought I’d like silicone ones instead. So I bought some and stuck a magnet on them, so they stick on the toaster and aren’t lying on a counter.
109% We have robot vacs on both of our levels and they even run every few days while we are away for months. You would be amazed at what the pick up even though we aren’t home. Great gadgets.
Have seen the same. But the price
100% we have the nuki. Terrific and we can let people in remotely
This is hilarious - I just bought the same mop after my last house sit! I’m not that crazy about it though as the mop head keeps falling
Agreed! I have a little army of them circling around like drunken tortoises gobbling up dog hair
I have a great spray mop with a head that swivels and gets into corners quite well.
True story: we sold our house last year and were packing our furniture for an international move. Every box and item gets itemized and labeled for export/import. Timing is everything, so we ask the movers to keep one box open so that I can quickly vacuum and pop the small vacuum in the box. Fine.
I decided to dice ahead and do a quick mop too. Movers are now all done and ready to go. I come out with the mop, pleading with them to just ‘throw it in the truck’. “No can do, it’s an international move, we can’t just throw it in. It has to get labeled and wrapped” but the wrap’s already put away. The younger of the two, must be about 19, mutters under his breath “you’ve got to be sh1tting me” but they do it! Hubby and I were sure we would find a mangled mop next to the road. But the mop made it to the new house, many seas over!!! Individually wrapped and labeled!
We once found a tube of Spanish Fly in our nightstand – an interesting gadget that I actually had to Google despite the very explicit imagery on the tube. I took it with humor; I’m not that uptight. But whether I want to have ot too? … nah, I’d rather pass.
I had to google that to see what it was - interesting!!
I bought an Echo Show after seeing them during a sit. I love it!
A Quooker At a recent sit they had one in their kitchen. I wasn’t sure about it at first but then I loved it.
