I stick a couple of tea bags in my suitcase, a snap (on the book) reading light and an extension cord. I also have a French press travel mug to satisfy my coffee addiction. Having said that, I have found few homes outside the US have electric outlets in the bathroom. I have to dry my hair with a hairdryer and hate doing it in the bedroom. Not an issue to be solved here but
Why not😂
Ooh tumble dryer - yes! Especially in damp England. I’ve been amazed at how many homes don’t have one. It’s made me rethink my whole way of doing laundry because I’ll admit I’m spoiled. I can do a load of laundry, washed and dried, in about 1 1/2 hours at home and so I find myself having to plan ahead for the (up to ) 24 hours it takes to wash and dry a load in the UK.
Side note: I’ve also noticed the washers seem to take ages to wash a load of clothes as well. Mine takes about 30 minutes at home, but some washers I’ve used in the UK take an hour or more. Not sure why.
Hi @Kelownagurl
I agree that some washers can take hours. I have used dozens of different ones while pet-sitting so when I needed to buy a new one, I knew exactly what my requirements were . I have a 30 min programme and can half most of the other programmes.
We don’t drink coffee in our house, but felt bad for sitters who were here for a week+ without access, so I asked around and someone gave me their old Nespresso machine. It sits on a shelf, a few capsules in the drawer, ready in case anyone wants to use it. I let them know that it is here, in case they want to bring their own capsules.
That’s very thoughtful @DantesDame and more thoughtful than my dear brother who doesn’t drink tea or coffee and when we stay with him we have to travel with our own cafetiere and teabags We do take a cafetiere to all our sits too, just in case, as we known many owners who don’t drink coffee as we do. I sometimes marvel at how well my partner Ian has managed to travel for a decade with a glass cafetiere in this carry-on with only one breakage! I can manage without most things (except a sharp knife) these days, but coffee sets me up for the day
That’s very generous of you. I don’t drink coffee so when I’m in my own base apartment and have friends over they know to bring their own if they don’t want tea. A couple people mentioned I should buy a jar of instant but I think it would almost never get used.
I love going to the US and being able to dry my hair in the bathroom! Such a luxury! Here in the UK very few will have that as our bathrooms are not big enough to accommodate our regulations:
“Sockets are not allowed in bathrooms or shower rooms (apart from shaver-supply units) unless they can be fitted at least three metres from the bath or shower”.
As a Brit who’s now been living in France for a year, I have that lovely benefit of sockets in bathrooms here too! It’s heaven to be able to dry one’s hair in front of a bathroom mirror
Yes we have a “Sheila Maid “ and using that with a dehumidifier its three hours or so. Its in a small back room …so not interfering with life as it were !!
No problem …and I enjoyed the fixation …just wanted to widen up the hints ! : )
I think a good supply of coffee and decent tea seems only reasonable …. Couldnt personally live without the latter!!
Thank you so much for being so considerate. I’m with you on the tumble dryer dilemma but a clothes line and some trusty clothes pegs works. We have even improvised with an old piece of rope we found in a shed and buying pegs from Poundland once. One sit we had an old fashioned pulley for drying clothes in the laundry. It brought back so many memories of staying with my gran.
I’m very fussy about tea. Tetley tea travels with me wherever I go. I like experimenting with coffee. Best ever was on a small coffee plantation in Cuba. Imagine strong coffee with a hint of chocolate….Never found it anywhere else.
A small (like 8") ceramic saucepan for scrambling an egg. Surprisingly, many of the places I’ve stayed have only had scratched up Teflon pans, and huge in size. I just want to scramble an egg
That’s awesome!
HI @theenglunds and “awesome” welcome to our community forum … we look forward to getting to know you and sharing in your THS journey.

I discovered this traveling in Vietnam - they are great.
Having started this thread a few weeks back - so - how do we get the ‘hosts’ to read it and maybe provide some of the things we are asking for?
My last sit in Houston, I went to Target and bought an inexpensive ($7) reading lamp and left it as a ‘gift.’

Great idea, @toml !
Why do without something you really need if you can buy it inexpensively?!
I have bought HOs toilet brushes, bottles of hand soap, pet carriers … I have wanted to buy them folding luggage racks but the cheapest I found was $45 and I didn’t want to spend that much. I’m still thinking of buying one for myself and taking it along when I drive.
Often I’ll buy a flowering plant or flowers and leave those - this time she got a bedside lamp.
