What's the weirdest thing a pet brought home?

Hello everyone!

I saw this video of a dog bringing a cow home recently, and it really made me chuckle.

It got me thinking of what else a pet might bring home, whether it’s a naughty pup stealing a roast chicken from the neighbour’s kitchen… or the time my cat brought home two wild rabbits…

Over to you! What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen a pet bring home? It can be real life, or it can be something you saw in a funny video.

Hope to see some funny replies

An Australian blue lizard he killed in the back yard. It wasn’t funny though, I was traumatized

Seen on social media:

A cat that had stolen some unknown neighbor’s raw chicken leg. Cat was pictured with it.

Another cat loved to steal socks and shoes. Was such a prolific thief that his humans would gather the stolen items and ask neighbors to check for their belongings every so often. The neighbors seemed to think it was funny.

I did a year-long sit in the San Bernardino mountains in southern California while in grad school in the early 1990s. I brought my Irish Wolfhound and 15 yo cat and cared for the resident cat and dog.
The resident cat would frequently bring me a blue jay (dead). The crazy thing is he would carry the bird up 2 flights of stairs from the cat/dog flap and leave it in the bath tub on the 3rd level of the house.
Photo from the web - too long ago for me to have any photos.

I was caring for a cat in the south of France who slept with me under the covers (we were both cold). She would get up every morning very early and go outside, then come back to bed with very cold feet. When I went down to the kitchen later, she had always brought me a mouse-sized piece of moss. Every morning for ten weeks. Except for one. One morning it was a mouse’s head.

I regularly look after my brother’s Siamese cat who has a garden glove fetish. He brings them home from neighbouring gardens. One day I said it’s a shame he doesn’t bring back a matching pair. Lo and behold the next day a matching glove appeared! :smiling_cat_with_heart_eyes:

My own Siamese cat brought home a live budgie, which found a home with a friend. The budgie lasted many more years, even out-living the cat.

While watching a Samoyed in Florida…the big white dog came back to the back yard black…thick muddy stuff…and he looked 1/2 his size since the fur is so thick.

I saw some blood as well near his hips…he had a 29" long alligator in his mouth…the alligator was dead.

The property was 15 acres with a 5 acre pond in the middle…HO said it was fine for the dogs to wander around as the entire 15 acres is fenced…that was an interesting phone call!

Not something a pet brought home, but last year I sat for a cat that every night would collect all of her furry cat toys (about 15) and pile them up in the shower. Not sure if she thought they needed to get washed or what exactly was going on, but it was hilarious. I also had a cat bring a live (small) snake into the house as a gift that was rather exciting!

Out of all the replies I thought I might see here, an alligator was not one of them, @TravelMan!

I’m so glad that your cat brought home a budgie, rather than a former budgie, @DianeS

We have a cocker-poo in the family who LOVES stealing clothes. If you take your socks off when she’s around, you’ll lose them.

Anyway, she managed to get into the neighbours garden and took their underwear off the washing line. I’m not sure who was more embarrased, the neighbour who knew we’d all seen his boxer shorts, or my in-laws who had to chase the dog around the garden to get them back
