I just wrapped a pawsome sit in Bellingham, Washington, my second favorite town in the Evergreen State, with King Koda the golden boy and his entertaining cat sisters: Olive, the Queen of the house and an extremely fluffy, yet somewhat snooty Norwegian Forest Cat, and Princess Lilo, the quiet and friendly lap tuxedo lady. Koda quicklybecame my became my trail buddy, as Bellingham, in the shadow of the Cascades and near the British Columbian border, is teeming with greenways and trails—the perfect place for fun walks. The historic Fairhaven district within Bellingham is loaded with eclectic eateries and cafes and is also a great place for walking your new furry buddy. I had two back-to-back sits in this lovely university town of under 100,000, with students comprising around 15,000 of that. So if you’re wanting to explore more of the Pacific Northwest, this is a great place!
The black and white cat is gorgeous.
She is, very tentative ar first, but then a delightful and playful lap cat. Her sister Olive equally gorgeous, but 14 years old wirh arthritis ( she gets shots for it) and a bit more grouchy ![]()
Just finished a sit with two lovely cats. The senior one slept almost the whole time. The younger one (the black cat) was super playful and social.
When the young 'un slept, he usually wanted to be touching me. So sweet.
We discovered a game he loved — he would jump into a pillowcase (with the pillow in it) and he would “shadow box” as I randomly poked my finger at the pillowcase. Fun.
Miss them, especially the little rascal.
Lovely pictures! They look adorable.
When dogs (and occasionally cats) relax like that, it relaxes me too!
Having withdrawals from cat sitting, but happy to promptly get a good review and hear from the hosts, following up:
“I think Billy misses all the attention you gave him. He’s been hanging out with us more than usual.”
That’s the older cat of the two, who’s 15. He slept a ton, but once warmed up started sprawling in front of me and wriggling around, looking for petting. So sweet.
I’m having a wonderful time at an old 16th century Mill House complete with mill pond and river running through the house! Great grounds and quaint house features but for me the big joy is the Black Lab puppy. She’s a year and so beautiful and affectionate. Just before the sit started the owners warned me Luna had come on heat. Luckily it’s very rural here and lots of walking options as well as enclosed grounds here too.
Looks fabulous @Highfive ! A mill house is on my wishlist of interesting properties to housesit in. I really like staying in places that used to be used for something else.
It looks amazing and you should see some wonderful birdlife.
We sat in a former Mill in Bedale and it still had the wheel incorporated within the house behind a glass screen.
Yes there have been sightings of kingfishers, and an otter. Some kites have nested in a nearby tree. On our walk this morning we saw heron and pheasants. The water looks very clean. There must be fish for the kingfishers to be here too. It’s magical. I’m here for my birthday and it’s a special privilege to enjoy such a lovely rural retreat.
A previous housesit owner brought me to this location as I have no car in UK and another one is meeting up for coffee with me in the village shop that also has a coffee shop dimension! We’ve chosen a sunny afternoon so it is very much looked forward to by both of us. When housesitting experiences are a genuine exchange and successful, I really appreciate the friendships my wife and I make along the way. In addition to the bonding with the pets of course!
Happy birthday, @Highfive! Glad you’re having a terrific sit!
Wow, I am so envious of your wildlife sightings. Where are you located?
Happy Birthday and enjoy the rest of your sit.
Wow, beautiful setting and wonderful pets, Enjoy! And happy birthday! ![]()
What a wonderful sit to enjoy on your birthday. Have a very special day.
