I’m currently on a sit in Finnengley, a village within Doncaster in South Yorkshire. Two kitties who’s Mom took them in as strays. Harry the tuxedo has had to all his teeth pulled due to gingivitis, but he’s recovered and frequently requests more food. Blue the Studley British Blue has kitty conjunctivitis but I successfully gave him his eye drops today which is not an easy task with cats. He also gets a capsule for arthritis which is mixed with his food. I came a day and half early and their Mom kindly showed me the area, and provided a couple of meals as well. She’s on a bus line to the Yorkshire wildlife park which I’ll go check out next week. I’m laying low this week recovering from a cold and it’s also been rainy ( nothing new for England) so far a relaxing snd cozy sit.
@Maggie8K which one has the rep?
My money is on the white one
Agreed but the orange one does kinda have eyes like…“you talkin’ to me.”
Ahhh their cute, especially the Snowshoe with the smudge on it’s nose.
The white guy. He’s friendly sometimes, but not reliably.
The orange guy is very sweet. He’s started climbing on me already.
Oh the stories you will have for us!
He really is unique looking
Enjoy!
Who owes who @Twitcher
When you turn up on a new sit and the HO says “I know you two are hardy types & love swimming so the pool is ready a month early. Enjoy!”
#Livingthedream!
Local sit in Chapel Hill for my brother (who introduced me to TH) while he is off to see the eclipse in Arkansas.
Two pups who know me well and are very comfortable.
Boudreax, the black dog -
and Gizmo, the boss dog in the house
@Debbie we have a sun worshipper in this house as well.
Just took some cat poop bags out to the garbage can and walked up on two grown deer by the side of my sit house on Bainbridge Island, off Seattle.
I texted my hosts and they said the deer haven’t been around in months. Lucky timing for me.
We have many deer where I live across the country, but I never try to get close to them.
Sitting chickens and ducks for the 1st time.
Fun!
Near New Orleans, Louisiana
I grew up in Lake Charles, LA and currently live in Houston TX. This sit gives me an opportunity to see friends and family that live in New Orleans and enjoy some Louisiana food.
My trick to approach deer: crouch down on the ground when they see you. Get low, like a dog or tortoise. Stop when they look at you. Move slowly, no sudden movements.
Deer, and cows are prey. Anything standing up, like a person or a bear, may be a predator. When crouched low, their curiosity takes over. I have crept within 30ft of a Mother and two yearlings. They even moved closer to me to get a better view, smell and sounds.
Thanks, but I purposely avoid approaching, because getting used to humans can put them in danger.
I do remember as a kid having family friends drive us to the redwoods in the San Francisco Bay Area as a treat and their having brought carrots for us to feed deer. I wouldn’t do that now, knowing the risks to wildlife.
