This is actually fun. Thanks for starting this @Colin!
14 sits, 3 of them 3 months long sits (I prefer long term sits)
therefore “only” 21 new pet friends
only 7 AirBnB nights and 3 nights visiting family!
5 countries
2 intercontinental flights
Well @Colin, I’ve just spent ages working this out when I should be doing my tax return , however it’s been interesting and I shall keep a running total from 1 January 2025 to make it easier when you ask next year
Slim pickings on the sit side of things but have had some fabulous trips made possible because of savings made housesitting, plus rental income from my home and pensions! What’s not to like?!
So:
4 countries: England, Scotland, Australia and New Zealand
17 sits of which 2 were repeats
203 nights sitting
17 dogs, 8 cats, 12 chickens, 4 Pygmy goats and 1 horse
100 nights in Airbnbs or hotels
2 nights on planes
11 nights free camping
7 nights on the Queen Mary 2
43 nights staying with friends
Amazingly, it is so interesting to hear everyone’s round up of the year, here’s ours too:-
17 sits in 4 countries: France, Scotland, England and Wales
297 nights sitting
2 horses, 20 cats, 6 dogs, 1 chinchilla and 14 chickens
22 nights Airbnb
1 ferry overnight
4 nights with family
12 night holiday in France
30 night holiday in Ireland
Wishing everyone health and happiness in their THS adventures in 2025…
Love this!
We are full time house sitters.
We completed 16 sits in 2 countries. 4 in the USA and 9 in Canada.
Many were longer sits so we only needed 14 hotel rooms and 9 Airbnb’s.
We only sit during school holidays and weekends, as a family of 3 or 4.
16 sits in 13 different homes
5 repeat sits
79 nights sitting (including current sit which finishes on 2nd January)
4 countries - England, Wales, Scotland, France
27 dogs
10 cats
18 chickens
3 sheep
a few fish
5 nights paid accommodation on the way to / from sits
First international sit
First time caring for sheep
First time giving insulin injections to a pet
Helped 3 new hosts start their THS journey
A new repeat sit (4 times this year and another booked next year)
We are currently on our 40th sit
This year was a very unusual one. Sold our house in one country, bought in another. Moved continents. Lots and lots of traveling inbetween, lots of organising and ‘buying time’, but only sporadically housesitting. I don’t even want to count the hotel/airbnb nights
Still, we finished 80 days of sitting: 4 sits across 2 countries (Australia, Germany). 2 dogs, 3 cats. Next year should see us sitting more again.
The whole thread makes us smile, now to do the maths…
5 countries visited - Turkey, Montenegro, Georgia, UK & Albania.
13 sits, 200ish nights total in 9 locations
4 repeats
14 dogs & 8 cats plus plenty of strays & rescues
A month off travelling around Albania in the summer
Managed to fit in buying a house on the Turkish coast
And won an award for work too which was an added bonus
2025 needs more overseas adventures & new sits and interesting people and pets.
Thanks for starting this @Colin and Happy 2025 all of you #hashtaghappy
Full time house sitters but this year we visited our family and friends a lot. We had a great time and can’t wait for more adventures in 2025!
10 sits
5 countries (England, Canada, Spain, Guernsey, Northern Cyprus)
288 days of pet sitting
3 nights in Hotel/Airbnb
75 nights with family/friends/home (UK & Poland)
18 cats
8 dogs
1 fish
@Colin thank you for starting this discussion - it’s such a lovely look back at the opportunities available to members who are part of the global Trusted Housesitters family. I love hearing about the amazing experiences that you’ve all had with furry/feathered friends.
Unfortunately, I’ve had to delete a series of posts from a minority which focussed on politics and nationalism - I’m hoping that I won’t need to close the thread.
Hi All… 2024 was an incredible year that we committed full time to the sit stay lifestyle!
We have been full time from March through December and are going to make the turn at 1 year soon! Already booked through June!
