The sitter and I are in agreement and will have a phone/video meeting soon. How and when do I send the I WANT YOU/YOU’RE HIRED msg?
You should wait until after the video call to make sure you and the sitter want to go ahead with the booking.
I’d say as soon as you’re sure you’re right for each other. I don’t consider myself committed until I get the invite from THS and I’ve accepted it. There have been times where I withdrew my application because a host was taking a long time to make a decision and another sitting opportunity with conflicting dates presented itself and I accepted that instead.
@Max2 I would say if you are already planning a video call then wait till after that to agree the sit. You would then send the sitter a request to sit which they have to agree to and then the sit is confirmed.
We have, on occasion, confirmed a sit (usually after a little messaging) and then had the call later. This is sometimes just because an immediate call was not possible (for whatever reason) but we both felt sure about the sit and had no particular questions. In a recent case our host did not want to keep the other potential sitters hanging on waiting for her decision and she knew we were busy planning and didn’t want to lose us! So we confirmed the sit and then had a lovely call a few days later.
But in general its advisable to have the call first because we have also experienced, on a couple of occasions, that we simply did not ‘gel’ with each other in the call and decided to withdraw our application afterwards.
By the way don’t use the term ‘hire’! You are not renting the sitter or paying them!
Yes, thanks for the insight and good advice.
I appreciate it very much. The term ‘hire’ was used tongue in cheek just here in the forum for lack of abe but never with a sitter.
Continued… for lack of a better way to ask my question.
I would say as soon as you are 100% certain you’re happy with them after your call. We have had many that have told us at the end of the call that they felt we would be a good match and that if we felt the same they would confirm the sit right away. One time they had other people to talk to and left it with informing us that of that and they would let us know within a couple days. Only once did we get confirmed and accept before the actual call but after some messaging back and forth. We were both really busy and the sit was a ways out so we agreed to sit and would talk later.
