Our apartment has a train about 10-20 blocks away. It rolls through and makes noise 10-20 seconds a day. Sometimes at night.
i told her about the train while she was touring before we left. But to be honest, never thought it was a big deal (and I live there !)
It’s in an upscale apartment and many millionaires, attorneys, retired people live there too! Nobody brings up the train.
Our sitter sent me an angry message this morning, saying we are taking advantage of her, that we hid this from her, that she is not my doormat, etc. and that I need to contact THS cuz she will be leaving tomorrow
she then changed tune and said there is street noise (no), that ambulances go out all night (no) and then that she had night terrors, and then that she will have health issues and never sleep.
THS confirmed that this is not okay. And now we are in the start of a month long trip and no assurance our cat will get the care we want.
This ruined our trip, and because we didn’t pay $59 more or whatever, THs won’t do anything but post another listing.

We messaged everyone in town and nobody is responding.
Is this really what to expect from this platform ???
No that’s really cr@p behaviour. Who is looking after your cat now? You could advertise for a last minute sitter. If you had plenty of applicants you would be likely to get someone else.
That sitter sounds like a head case or is using the noises as an excuse. As for THS, it’s a matching platform and you do your own diligence. Always have a fallback plan, because even with responsible sitters, emergencies can come up.

Per its 2024 Impact Report, THS platform has ~6000 pets being looked after each night. Sometimes exceptions occur. Surprises by either party seem a key theme of poor outcomes (pet behaviour, property condition, various expectations, unexpected visitors).
Suggest update listing with clear details of location and any transit noise. Whether train noise is excessive or not is subjective - transparency may avoid future surprises.
Suggest add your new THS listing to your THS Forum profile and also post in ‘Last minute sits’ area of THS Forum.
She is scrambling and knocking doors in the complex to find someone who can stop in. She made the whole thing to be some sort of vengeance for previous bad sitting experiences, comparing me to previous sits where she felt taken advantage of. Now, she says she has PTSD. My cat is the one suffering due to this and it’s very sad since he is the sweetest, we are not being unreasonable, didn’t hide anything, etc
Sorry you have been let down like that.
I’ve had a look at your listing and your kitty looks gorgeous. You might consider adjusting the departure times as it’s late in the evening and sitters might be put off by that.
Sitter sounds a wee bit unhinged (PTSD from your sit !?!) . I’m sorry that you & your poor kitty are having to deal with this , hope that you can find a more balanced and responsible sitter…….and hope that your review accurately reflects the current sitter’s behaviour.
Ugh. Sorry you are going through this. Sounds like one of the many entitled sitters who frequent the Reddit page. What was her previous reviews like? And of course we hope you review her honestly. Good luck.
She mentioned various times that she is sick of THS. As we see it, this whole thing is about her frustration with the platform more so than a train or whatever. If she wants to get off THS, our review will help her. Our ruined start to the vacation and scared cat, though, is very unfortunate
More likely she’s a marginal, intolerant, anxiety ridden individual who sees everyone else as the problem. Her frustration with THS (and her displaced anger towards you) are symptoms not the cause.
You’ve been incredibly unlucky. A few questions though- on reflection did you read her reviews and then also read the reviews she gave other home owners? Experienced home owners (HOs) do this. It’s a good strategy to help weed out any rare unbalanced sitters who do unfortunately walk amongst us. You’ve had good advice: change your dates to end the sit and review her and save future HOs from a similar experience and create a new last minute sit with new dates- I think you’ll find somebody..

Surprisingly her reviews were mainly good and then on day 1 she sent me a very angry and aggressive message accusing me of things we never did (taking advantage of her for using THS, saying I am like some other guy who asked her to clean the pool because a train makes noise 10-20 seconds a day, etc)
Her previous reviews were good! This is a big reason we chose her. It seems she built uppent up rage and passive aggression from various previous HOs who asked her to do things like clean a pool, and think they are “taking advantage of her” that’s she not a doormat, etc. but I am still not sure what this has to do with us and a train that makes noise 10-20 seconds a day. We have no weird needs or requirements other than to play with our cat !
