Advertising Sits on Forum or Where?

I read a few posts about advertising a person’s sit, I’m not sure how this is done. I know there is a FB group that is loosely associated with THS & I have found it not that helpful & full of overly opinionated members. What is the protocol to actually advertise your sit, is there a thread I’m missing or is that even legal? Thanks for your feedback. - Myka

Hello @Myka !

As it seems you are a paying member, which is no. 1, you need to publish your dates for your sit (-s).

Took a quick look at your listing. You have perks that can be quite attractive, like housekeeper and possibility of car, depending.

Some things that sitters look for and that many hosts don’t mention: 1. Why should I want to go to your destination? 2. How do I get there? What is the possibilities of public transport? Maybe something on how to get from airport? 3. Beds: What bedrooms can we use? What sort of beds and how large? (Please use measurements and not full/ double/ queen and such, as the meaning differ). Some couples prefer separate bedrooms - so mention if possible. 4. where does the pets sleep? Many avoid pets in beds/ bedrooms 5. How long can the pets be left for outings. (4+ hours? 6+ hours?)

You’ve had some of these covered, but some are missing.

Unfortunately, the US is currently a no-go to many international sitters, so I would say the main target group would be within the country. Also sitters nearby, perhaps, as it could be an option if they would like a getaway for various reasons. I would look into a plan B. It is always advised to have one, but as it is getting close also.

You need to go to the Trusted Housesitters website. You’ll find all the instructions to create and post a listing.

The listing is posted, I’ve had many sitters in the past. I didn’t inquire about the listing, I inquired about how to advertise it on the forum. Thank you.

Thank you for the feedback, I will edit the listing to account for some your recommendations.

There’s a couple of large non-official fb groups for THS, and I have to say I found them quite unhelpful too in the early days, totally opinionated, instead of factual and helpful.

You’ve got a great profile, but it indicates you have 1 dog, not 2. Where you’ve put in about Willow and placed an image, add your other dog in. Because it says you have 1 dog, so when any sitter clicks in and sees 2, they immediately start to look for other things that aren’t right too, instead of staying on a high and being excited to find out about your place and pets.

Also, remove your photo with the additional blanket over the bed, because we don’t want to feel like we are literally sleeping in the dogs bed, when it’s a dog we don’t know. It will visually appeal to more sitters at first glance… and that is coming from someone that has ended up sleeping with quite a few dogs quite happily whilst dog sitting.

You’ve got a lovely place.

You just did advertise it, without you realising . There’s only the “last minute sits” section on the forum to post about it.

So the way to advertise outside of it being last minute, is exactly the way you just did, where you asked a question and got eyes on your place. :+1:

Hi @Myka,

Welcome to the Trusted Housesitters Forum - we have thousands of fantastic members who can share their knowledge and experience.

On our forum, we do offer a category to promote last minute sits - when they’re due to start in the next week or so.

Other than that, we ask people not to directly post links advertising their listings as our forum could quickly become flooded.

Similar to what you’ve done, members can share links to their listings in their Forum profile and will often ask for tips/advice from others about the listing and recommendations from the readers POV - of course, that advice is completely subjective.

As @HappyDeb mentioned, this has the added benefit of drawing extra eyes from across the forum to your fantastic home and Willow.

Have a great day!

Thank you for the feedback, sadly my other dog passed away, I thought I had taken all references for my other dog out, but I guess it’s still showing two somewhere, I will have to look into this & try to remove all those references. Yes about the bed, I just bought a down comforter, so I’ll put that on & take some new pics. Thanks again!

There isn’t any way to advertise a sit on this THS forum that is more than 1 week away and, if there were, doubt it would be very effective. If the sit is within 7 days then there is an option to advertise here but your sit dates are too far out.
Out of curiosity, why are you looking to advertise at all? Your profile shows past sits with good reviews plus an open sit toward the end of October. Are you not getting applicants for that sit and it’s understandably making you nervous?

Yes, that is probably the bulk of it, just feeling nervous about the sit, I normally put my sit up months in advance, but this one was short notice, & necessary due to medical reasons, so I’m stressing about not having something locked in.
