Hi @anon22438636

I had a quick look at Discourse’s Community (Discourse being our Forum platform provider) and was able to find the following:

"We’ve introduced an AI Image Captioning feature to the Discourse AI plugin, enabling automatic caption generation for images in posts. This functionality aims to improve content accessibility and enrich visual elements within your community.

Features and Use

  • Automatic AI Captions: Upon uploading an image in the editor, you can generate a caption automatically using AI.
  • Editable Captions: The generated caption can be edited to better suit your content’s context and tone.
  • Enhanced Accessibility: The feature supports creating more accessible content for users relying on screen readers."

Put simply, ticking the box gives you the option of AI generating a caption for any photo you might add to a post. This means improved accessibility for people using a screen reader, as a photo would have a description, which would be read aloud by a screen reader.

I tried to enable the feature to see if I could show an example of how it would look, but it doesn’t seem to be working at the moment, so I’ll have to pop back another time with an example.

It’s more, “you don’t have to think, the computer will do it for you.”
I downloaded a few apps to see how it all works.
AI is automated Intelligence.
With it you can create images, captions, videos, summarize written text to make it appear as if you wrote it. You can even write a whole article, book or research paper without knowing anything at all.
You just plug in a few key words…

The future is ours

This comes in handy If people have vision problems. Then they use screen readers. The screen reader will use the AI generated image captions and provide a description of picture e.g. “this is a picture of fluffy white sheep”.

This is spot on, thank you @BunnyCat  what you’ve said here is the reason for offering this feature… though I would quite like to get it working for me to demonstrate!
