Anne, from Scotland

Hi, I joined Trusted Housesitters with my husband about 2 years ago as we were both lucky enough to get early retirement at the start of 2020, then of course we all know what came next! We were due to have our first sit in beautiful Nova Scotia, Canada in June last year and this has of course been deferred to September this year, which we’re hopeful can happen. We both love animals but don’t have our own at the moment as the plan was to travel and ‘borrow’ others while house sitting to shower with attention. Keen to pick up tips from experienced travelers especially with added complications of COVID, Brexit (why???) and travel insurance.

Welcome Anne, thank you for joining our forum we hope you are keeping warm, Scotland is a little chilly right now (I’m in Helenburgh it was 1 degree yesterday!)

With travel opening up once more we’re sure you will get to explore our TrustedHousesitters world and Nova Scotia would be an amazing place to start, fingers crossed that it happens for you.

Enjoy the conversations and connecting with like minded pet and travel lovers, we can’t wait to get to know you better and share in your journey.

Hi Helen, thank you! Very windy and nippy Dundee here but sunny at least. Hopefully Nova can happen later this year.

Hi Peter, that sounds amazing. We’ve visited Vietnam a couple of times and loved it there, SE Asia is definitely an area we’d be keen to see more of. Totally missing the travel and heat too.

Welcome, Anne! Love Scotland, we spent some time housesitting in Dundee and explored St. Andrews & Edinburgh a couple of years ago, it was fantastic.

It’s been a dream of mine to walk in the Cairngorms ever since reading Nan Shepherd’s The Living Mountain… one day!

Hi Lindsay, that’s good to hear! I would also happily swap you, Canada is an absolute favourite with me, we’ve visited Toronto many times as have friends there, loved the beach area at Queens, also visited the west coast, skiing in Whistler which we’re determined to return to, Calgary, Lake Louise, Banff and Vancouver. I’m also obsessed with Timbits.

Hi @Dufc28 do you know you can get Timbits in Glasgow?

@Dufc28 A swap is a great idea - may just take you up on that some day! Also happy to send Timbits but not sure how well they’d hold up in the post

Oh yes… I know… I’m actually still trying to get over our idiot planning committee Councillors turning down a request from Tim Hortons to open a branch in Dundee despite it being recommended for approval. The site is 10 minutes from my house, not bitter at all.

Thank you! Thankfully they have opened some branches in Scotland to keep me going.

Hi Anne, I’m sorry your travel plans are hold & I hope for us all that the world becomes safe again soon. Maybe you could look at doing some pet sits more local to you & building up your profile ready for when you can dust off your passport!
