Hi there! I’m new to Trusted Housesitters as well as the community forum–what timing! I’ve been housesitting for friends and family for some time, between the US and Scotland, but I’ve realized I do it often enough that I could start to branch out! I travel a lot for work and for fun, and I essentially split my time between Edinburgh, Scotland, and Northeast Wisconsin. I work in the arts as an independent art curator, and with the added bonus of being, for the most part, a “digital nomad.” My last housesit was supposed to be a long-term one for 6-ish weeks in Edinburgh, but that was in March, and the owners’ trip was cut short, so of course so was the sit! So I’ve been back in Wisconsin since then, and looking forward to returning to Edinburgh in just a few weeks.
So glad to be here and be a part of this community!
We are so glad you have joined as a TrustedHousesitters member and here on the Forum … welcome to our very special, pet loving community Kate are you in Scotland or Wisconsin?
Thank you for your wonderful introduction, a pet and housesitting lifestyle is perfect for living a meaningful digital nomads life, I say that from experience, sitting a pet will give you a great life work balance, walking your new best friend before sitting down to the computer provides the best of both worlds.
You’ll find lots of help and support here, enjoy the conversations and connecting with members from around the world.
Thanks so much Angelia, nice to meet you! I’m currently in Wisconsin, but heading back to Scotland in just a few short weeks. I bounce back and forth regularly!
Looking forward to participating in this very useful forum – great to see this resource!
@Kate
Nice to meet you. We are so looking forward to experiencing Scotland. Maybe we will get your advice when we can finally go. We have had three trips there canceled for different reasons over the years. Do you sit for the same owners every time?
Jennifer and Scott from Virginia (near DC)
Scotland is one of my favorite places on earth I guarantee you’ll love it when you get there! I love so many parts of the country.
I’ve been a sitter regularly for the same couple in Edinburgh, as they love to go on longer trips when they can. I’m also definitely open to other ones too, but I do personally love when there’s the opportunity to revisit with pets you hung out with once or twice before—it’s always so crazy how they recognize you!! The second or third sit can be so fun because they’re like “Oh hey buddy!”
I’d be more than happy to provide any advice/recommendations as far as I’m able! There aren’t enough good things to say
Hi Kate - my husband & I are in Wisconsin, too - in Chippewa Falls. He has family in Oshkosh, and we try to get to Door County once a year or so. We haven’t house/pet-sat through this site yet, so it might be fun to connect sometime (post-COVID) for a coffee when we are in Eastern WI, to meet and learn about your experience. How fun to have an ongoing relationship as a sitter in Scotland!
Hi @cstatz welcome to our Forum thank you for joining and welcome to TrustedHousesitters we hope you have the opportunity to get your first pet sit soon and great that you have discovered a fellow Wisconsinonian (if that is even a title)
Enjoy the conversations and connecting with other members, we are a very special community, thank you for being part of it.
Hi over there in Chippewa Falls! I’ve driven through there many times on my way to visit family and go camping in the northern parts of the state or Minnesota. I also am brand new to Trusted Housesitters as a site/service, so I look forward to checking it out more, although I’ve been housesitting for a little while. Let me know if you get to this side of the state at some point! I don’t often know when I’ll be in one place or the other (depends on family and work most of the time) but if it works out, a coffee sounds great. Hope you’re getting some of the springtime vibes up there–finally!
Great! Looking forward to it. I run a summer camp program (cautious & careful plans for this season); gearing up now, so might not be until the fall, but will keep it in mind; would be fun to connect!
Welcome Kate.
I live in Edinburgh and have been confined to the city for weeks. We have only now been given leave to travel out with our authority region but no overnight stays. Not sure when that changes. Soon I hope.
No travel into Scotland from anywhere until at least the 17th May or later, unless it falls within the essential list. That is my understanding anyway. I think 10 day self isolation period is still a requirement.
If you fancy meeting up when you do get here let me know. Be nice to meet with a fellow THS’er.
Hello! It has truly been a challenging year. I’ve been in the States but many of my friends in Edinburgh have been relieved to be able to get outdoors a little bit more, indeed! Luckily, moving house counts as an essential reason to travel, but that 10-day quarantine is part of the deal, for sure. Looking forward to getting settled again and enjoying some Scottish summertime!
