Congratulations @ElsieDownie … Where wil you be sitting and please tell us what doggies you will be sitting alongside?
Is there something I should add in our applications when applying for US sits besides what you’ve mentioned? Different attitudes up in the US as compared down here in nz/oz.
When we applied for all our summer overseas sits, I explained in full detail that we have confirmed travel plans for the full 5 months. I’m very pleased to have had a very positive response to most all of our applications. It gives us great hope for future trips in 2023, and our travels when Australia and New Zealand open up to US travelers.
We are all waiting for the moment New Zealand and Australia open. It’s going to be a mad scramble
The first is in Florida and is a mixed breed then when we come back from a months visit back home we have a Havanese in the foothills of the Smokey mountains then back to old friends in Virginia. Two toy poodles. They don’t walk much but are such good fun at hiding things.
Sounds like a great pet sitting itinerary @ElsieDownie …we will be waiting for pics!!
We have found they are far more security conscious so reassurances about the care of their property is a must. And they like to know your itinerary before and after their sit. Ask lots of questions about everything.
I just apply like a maniac to every sit that fits. I also got declined because they rather have someone from their hometown because of the Covid situation, but others don’t mind. Just apply, apply, apply and find someone that doesn’t mind.
I have my first international sits this year. Three British HOs booked me while I was still in the US; a French HO I’m currently speaking with would have discounted me if I were not already in Europe.
Try…
We are sitters from Australia and just got our first overseas sit in the UK in Dec 2022. We will be there for a few months and very keen to fill up our ‘dance card’ with back to back sits. We have had a few HO knock us back because they are nervous about borders closing again.
Australia’s borders open tomorrow 21 Feb 2022 to all foreign travellers who are COVID-19 double vaxxed, with no quarantining required. Come on down everyone we are open for business!
Planning to come in December
Will be arriving in Brisbane on 12 April for a 5 month sit. Really looking forward to it! Yikes, we haven’t been on a plane in 2 years!
HI @anon1411559 I just arrived in WA, USA from the UK and like you had not been on a plane for almost 2 years, March 2020 …
The only slightly stressful thing is the pre flight COVID test, the timing, the process and will it be negative or not?
The presentation of the “All Clear” certificate was akin to having won a prize
Have a great flight to Brisbane!!
@anon1411559 what Brisbane suburb is your sit at?
We will be in Hawthorne
I know. Our PCR tests are booked but I’m stressing a bit. Omicron has finally arrived in NZ and it’s going to get worse before it gets better. Just hope we have a negative result when the time comes.
I love this guy & has provided a weekly giggle during the squiggly past 2 yrs
.
Also, don’t forget, to get into Western Australia you’ll need to have had a booster & wait til early march for border to open
In terms of tourism, the staff needed will take time to return in some places but as this article says, do go https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-02-21/border-reopens-travel-tourism-industry-tourists-return-covid/100843998
Thank you so much for sharing this, it’s hilarious. I’ll be checking out the other videos now! I’m planning to go to Oz again in December.
Hawthorne is a great inner city suburb on the river. I used to live across the river from there. Hopefully you will be in walking distance to the ferry terminal. Ferries and CityCats are my favourite Brisbane public transport. I used to catch them to and from work for a few years. Make sure you get a Go Card when you get here to get cheaper public transport. You will have a great time. Perfect place to spend winter, you will love the climate! I can often go through winter without wearing a coat.
