Auto-renew is forcing me to renew at £99 rather than use a discount code, unless I cancel pre-booked sits first!

Hi all, I have a sit booked for Dec/Jan, and my renewal date is end Nov. I do plan to renew, I just don’t want to be forced to pay £99 when I can use a discount code to save money. THS says I need to cancel my booked sit in order to cancel auto-renew, which is ridiculous, the people I’m booked in with don’t need the hassle, it’s been booked for months, it will panic them for me to cancel… plus it’s not right for a company to force me to pay more money to renew - it needs another option - to use a code to renew your account.
Anyway - do be aware as it’s the first I knew about it - previously been told that ‘you can cancel auto-renew at any time’ no info about having to cancel booked sits.

Is it really worth asking the HOs to cancel and re-book you after you’ve re-subscribed, just to save a few pounds? It would cost you more than you’d save with a discount code, to book a hotel room for a single night.

I guess the moral of this story is: if you want to use a discount code rather than auto-renew, don’t confirm any sits beyond your renewal date. Sorry if that sounds harsh but, you must have known when you confirmed the sit, that the dates were beyond your renewal date.

Also, if you are on the old style “Basic” Membership, you would lose this and have to go onto the more expensive Standard Membership.

Reading other threads on this subject, many members are paying all sorts of different fees, so it would be easier and as @Happypets says, less hassle to just stay on your present one.

It may only be a small saving to you, but money is very tight for me at present, and it’s the principle of it all. I refuse to be forced to pay a higher amount out of panic that pre-booked sits will be cancelled, when there is no warning of that at all until auto-renewal time.

I’ve since had a very silly round-and-round online chat conversation with THS, who in the end were able to cancel the auto-renew on their end - so that the pre-booked sit did not get notified of any cancellation. She gave me a 20% discount, and I was able to pay for another basic membership, the sit I have booked is non-the-wiser, and everyone happy.

Exactly - that’s what THS want you to think so they get you to pay more out of sheer panic that you’ll have the hassle of re-booking etc.

THS offer such poor user experience already, I refuse to pay them more money when they don’t deserve it. Companies need to listen to their members. We already have to do video calls off site - that’s such a disaster for user safety. They should have an in-site function to do that. But no, members must give out their personal phone numbers etc.

@Tallbird - I didn’t think you can use a discount code when renewing?

There should be the option to use a discount code when renewing - so that you get the same options as new members have. I joined using a discount code after someone referred me, but had no clue about auto-renewal until I got sent an email.

Worth knowing there’s the option for sure!

@Tallbird

Thats not how introduction codes normally work.

They are there as a special offer to get you to try the service, for any years membership after that you pay the normal rates.

Maybe @Jenny could confirm that.?

Why should one be able to use a discount-code when renewing, then it would be better to just lower the fee. But when one at the same time want more services that don’t add up. Want more, pay more.

Hi @Colin

You’re spot on - an introductory code is just that - a special offer to try the service at a reduced rate before switching to the standard yearly rate at the end of the reduced rate period.

@Tallbird I can see that you contacted MS directly, and they’ve verified all of this as well, so I’m going to close this discussion to new replies as your enquiry has been resolved by them.
