Backlash/Blowup From HO Review

Not hurtful, honest. In all honesty, we should be thorough with the home owners, because those are really the only markers that something might be wrong with a listing. Otherwise they can make up whatever they want and people who are new to the platform will be inclined to leave perfect 5 star reviews.

The sitter chose the sit based on false pretenses. Bringing such items to the attention of the host during the sit wouldn’t have mattered in most of the issues mentioned, including lack of washer dryer, poor sleeping arrangements and the overall appearance of the house being misrepresented.

Thank you for your honest review!!

And a thousand thank yous for not sugar coating it!

Right now I have to carefully dissect each review to see if a place is clean or disgusting. I’ve had sits where I nearly got sick from the filth and mold yet not one sitter mentioned it :woman_shrugging:

Now if no one mentions it is “clean” I know it’s filthy even with 5 stars.

I sincerely wish more sitters were like you in their honesty so bizarre surprises don’t show up when you arrive.

Bravo! Keep up the good work!

Yes i agree. Misleading, and plain untruthful reviews are a big problem with THS.

The amount of hosts who get away with reviews is staggering, sitters are being too nice, speaking from experience, which is why I’m not even bothered to look at those 5 star reviews. On the contrary, home owners care less about the impact of reviews on sitters, they tend to nitpick and dock stars here and there without considering how hard it would be for the sitters to get new sits. Bad reviews have a greater impact on sitters than on homeowners.

This statement, or more accurately opinion, is just not so for every situation. Every sitter and homeowner have different ideas and tolerances for infractions mentioned in reviews. Some people are more forgiving, less picky or have higher standards or certain requirements for Homeowners or Sitters. It can be a behavior, a location, a layout of the home, an amenity, personality conflict, accident, I could go on and on about what might result in a bad review. It will be a hard pass for some and forgivable for others.

Hardly the HOs fault if the neighbours were ‘jumping rope’ so think that part didn’t need to be included.

But wouldn’t you want to know that’s an issue if you were to sit there?

It’s not that the host is responsible for whether neighbors are loud, but they’re responsible for divulging that if it’s a regular or repeated thing.

Her listing sounds deliberately deceptive. To show a bed and use the word peaceful is hard to interpret otherwise. Top marks from me, you wrote what other sitters need to know

Writing a honest and fair review is always the right thing to do - otherwise there is little point in writing a review at all .

Some hosts may choose to disregard or challenge a negative review but others will address the issues and thereby improve their opportunity to get sitters apply for future sits.

Some sitters may not be concerned about noisy neighbours , in which case you’ve done no harm by mentioning it . Others will not be able to tolerate it and may leave the sit early which wouldn’t be a good outcome for the host , sitter or pets .

You were honest, per your perspective. Whether she likes it or not is no reflection on your honesty; which helps the rest of us sitters tremendously. Press on. You did a good job. She needs to up her game.

You can turn off hearing aids but still feel the vibrations. I have a friend/former neighbor who is profoundly deaf (from Measles as a child) and she grimaces when there’s shrieking/crowd noise nearby, and says that “thump thump thump” music and other stuff that vibrates really bothers her equilibrium.

Futons are horrid.
