I do not quite understand why it is not prioritized to implement a blocking function.
Some HOs feel that this would make THS safer for them. And many would like to be able to block applicants that keep applying although they were declined (those might be bots).
As a sitter, I would like to be able to block notifications for some listings that I am really not interested in.
I would like to be able to hide both my listing and profile from certain people with whom I have had unpleasant experiences. I would like this to be a feature of the site/app. It will save everyone a lot of trouble. It is possible on Airbnb–I have had to do it as a host in order to not get repeat bookings from certain “unsuitable” guests. It’s a good feature. It’s silly that THS doesn’t have ths option as someone in your home is much more serious than someone in your rental property. Again, I think sitters should be able to block homeowners and homeowners should be able to block sitters, too. Thanks.
@cherylfah Thank you for sharing this suggestion, I am very sorry to hear you have had these experiences and will make sure I pass this back to the product team. If anything gets implemented we will let you know.
I am also curious about a block feature. I had a bad experience meeting with a host, but their housesitting requests keep showing in my search results.
If THS would make a way to block a user (so listings don’t show) and hide a listing (so same listing doesn’t keep showing in search results), that would be useful.
Report her to THS HQ @timella and send a screenshot of the DMs and ask them to contact her and tell her to stop messaging you. Block her on what’s app. If they don’t help, raise a dispute about it and escalate it and tell her that and she’ll probably go away.
I was looking through the Forum and your description seems just like the sitter that keeps applying to my listing. In two years and many listing he applied over a dozen times, even 5 times in a row for the same listing though I declined every time.
I asked politely not to apply anymore and I got a rude answer “if I could block you, I would”. YOU WOULD?
I don’t mind but every time I get one of the five places blocked by this user, and I really don’t like it because it’s a potential sitter I miss.
Wow. Tbh, if he does it again, I would just report it and with all the evidence you’d have a good body of evidence for a complaint. I haven’t seen him pop up on my listings lately.
I think I may have deleted the chat or it’s buried in my archival history as it was now quite some time ago but I’m going to report the next time it happens.
Maybe I can do that. Anyway, the best answer to his behavior is that - evidently - nobody accepts ever his application, because his only review dates back a long time ago.
Hi Carla, I ran a thread on this last year here in this Forum, as I’ve also been suspecting for a while now that some people on THS use bots to automatically apply in order to be with the first 5.
I don’t think it was looked into at the time; probably brushed off as ‘unlikely to be a real issue’. Nonetheless, I would absolutely not be surprised if it IS happening based on what I’ve heard multiple times.
And it’s unfair for the rest of us, who do not use bots & whose only opportunity to be amongst the first 5 is to be glued to our screen in order to constantly be able to catch new sits as they’re posted. Unfortunately I do not have the ability to be able to jump on the THS site all the time, at any time, to ‘catch’ that sit.
I feel like this was passed to the team at the time, but I don’t know what the outcome was, so I’ve shared a screenshot of your comments to see if I can get a response.
Can’t promise anything but I’ll get back to you if I can.
