Cancelled Auto-renewal

Hey everyone, I’ve cancelled the auto-renewal on my membership, which was due to renew this spring. Been traveling a lot so won’t be for quite a while.

What happens after that? Is it like other memberships where you can pause and reactivate your account later, or is everything deleted so you’d have to join again as a completely new member?
Thanks in advance!

Hi @buttercup

Good question.

I had a look, as I was sure I had helped someone with this previously, and I think you might find the answers you need in this thread.

Let me know if that link helps, or if there’s anything else you need to know.

Question: if @buttercup or any other member rejoins, are they eligible to use a referral code for a discount or is that only for those who have never been a member before?

I’ve asked the question @MaggieUU - I’ll pop back when I know more  thanks for asking!

I asked that question in my first renewal and they said if I used a referral code I would have to create a new account and would lose my reviews. Instead, they offered a 20% discount at the time.

I would suggest double checking as the system is quite confusing and designed to keep you in auto renewal. I thought I had turned it of and when I went to check the end date, I found out that auto renewal was still active.

This is pretty much what I was going to come back with - thank you! I would recommend that if someone is returning after having a cancelled membership, they should speak with Membership Services and ask about any seasonal discounts before renewing.

@buttercup Cancelling auto renew and allowing your membership to lapse is not the same as formally cancelling your membership. If you just let it lapse THS holds your data for about 2 years before deleting it. This has come up frequently on other threads.

However if you request your account to be officially closed and all data removed then you cannot reactivate it at a later date.

So you should be fine if your gap is going to be less than two years. I would suggest though that you screenshot all your hard earned reviews for safe keeping- just incase!

I’ve cancelled auto-renewal in January and just let my account lapse. I re-joined two other platforms I had been in contact with before. We got very good house sitters from one of them (French). The other (international but operates from New Zealand and always very helpful) transferred all our THS reviews to our profile on their site, which was brilliant ! Still it’s a good idea to copy your reviews to your laptop for safe keeping, as suggested. Just make sure your reviews get transferred to the other platform before your THS account lapse, otherwise they can’t do it.

Thank you everyone, this has been very helpful, much appreciated! :dizzy:
