Cared for section

Hey sitters -

Do you all add the pets you have cared for via THS to the experience section? Where the individual photos/names appear, and if so did you ask PP before adding them? I would really love to add the 17+ pets to this but not sure if it’s that ‘done thing’

Thank yoooo

@oxalis I’ve never added any pet photos in this section as I have plenty of photos of me with pets in my photo section.

No, I’ve not added any photos at all to that part. Judge it on whether you feel it enhances your profile or not.

For us, it would detract from the wording, and that wording “sells us” in a fantastic way.

We’ve got our best images on the main photo’s part. So just those along with our words are what “sells us” best.

I think it depends on what other life experience you have, but we’re in our 50’s & 60’s so we’ve bucket loads of that

As a sitter I don’t use that section. It feels too busy, and also I do feel like I should be posting photos of pets by name without perminssion from the owners.

As a host, I don’t look at the “cared for.” I want to see photos of sitters interacting with pets in their photos and I read the profiles and look at both the reviews written about the sitter and that the sitter has written. That’s enough information. “Cared for” is pretty meaningless.

I don’t complete that section. I’ve taken care of hundreds of pets over the years, as a pet owner, pet sitter and many years of foster pets. This is all in my profile and I don’t think photos of random animals adds credibility. I have photos of me with animals as my profile photos which I think is enough.

As a homeowner, I don’t look at that section. It doesn’t prove anything other than that the sitter knows how to upload photos. Anyone can find photos of animals online to use if they want to cheat. I prefer to see photos of them with animals in their profile photos.

No, but my photos are with some of the pets I’ve cared for. It wasn’t an option when I joined and, now that it is, I can’t be bothered & agree with @Lassie

@oxalis, unexpectedly we seem different than other respondents. As housesitters, we completed this section of us with pets that we’d cared for over the years - before we even heard of THS. Perhaps coincidence but we did not struggle at all securing housesits, even with zero reviews.
Over first whiles, we switched out photos for us + pets on THS housesits. We tried to showcase variety of dog breeds, cats, etc. From memory, only 10 entries were allowed so we have not updated after we completed first handful of housesits. That said, our profile still has those photos. We considered related time and effort to be negligible. Whether it helped us to secure housesits is inherently unknown but we have not struggled. Maybe the photos helped.

Hey @oxalis

Short answer: no — we never did it. When we started full-time house sitting 14 years ago, the “experience” section with photos wasn’t really a thing. Back then, you could only add 10 photos total to the “about you” section, and that included your profile pic, so it was a very lean setup!

Going back now to add pics for every single pet we’ve cared for would mean uploading hundreds of photos… and honestly, ain’t nobody got time for that

That said, you’re just starting out, so if you want to show off all 17+ pets, go for it! It’s a lovely way to make your profile pop and show off your experience right from the get-go. :paw_prints::heart:

I didn’t realise it capped at 10, which pretty much answers my question! I think perhaps it was also more for me as well as it brings me joy to see all the lovely pets we have sat!

@oxalis Apologies for any misunderstanding. In the “olden days” there was only one section within the sitter profile, “About You”, where 10 photos, including the profile pic, could be uploaded. It appears that THS has since extended the section entitled “Your Experience”, allowing sitters to “introduce owners to the pets you’ve cared for” by adding additional photos. This is the section I think would be wonderful for you - it’s a fabulous way to chronicle your journey, one pet and one sit at a time :paw_prints::heart:

Like others have said this section didn’t exist when we joined. We just added ourbest photos with pets to our profile photos. We update these regularly, mainly to show recent images of my (now teenage) boys.

We have cared for hundreds of pets so we have no plans to add photos to the cared for section. It is clear from the host responses that the main photos are much more important.
