Cat camera suggestions

Bit random, but hoping the cat owners and sitters on this forum can help.

My son has asked for a cat collar camera for his birthday! Problem is, what i’m finding online all look pretty appalling in quality or super clunky. Can anyone reccomend?

Ideally nothing too expensive as our cats have a history of removing their collars. wouldn’t be wearing it all the time, either. I do somewhat feel I am throwing money away but it will be really fun if it works.

Although I am unable to recommend a specific collar, someone recently shared a video from their cat cam. She mentioned that she preferred the type with the camera hanging from the collar rather than being in line with it. Her first collar was the in-line version, which was often obstructed by the cat’s fur and chin, and the angle was awkward. She said the hanging collar provided a better camera angle. Good luck, I hope you capture some fun moments!

@catscatscats24, we’ve never heard of a cat collar camera. Seems a tough product in terms of size, battery, features, data. Complicated. If open to a simpler solution, we used an Apple AirTag on the collar of our late dog. Through THS, we’ve encountered multiple Pet Parents that have used AirTags on the collars of their pets, including cats. Airtags and small collar enclosures readily available on amazon.

@GotYourBack , I think the point is to see what the cat’s doing, not just track where they are.

@catscatscats24, it might take some digging, but, if you look for some of the research that’s been done with cat cams, you might find models suggested, or could maybe contact the researchers and ask what they recommend. In a quick look I saw 2 studies from the universities of Guelph and Derby – but both cameras were pretty big and clunky-looking.

I think it would be a fun project. Hope you find something. Do share your results with us? :grinning_cat:
