Saw a post on Facebook that I found hilarious (sharing a screenshot only, because THS doesn’t allow Facebook links). This cat was in high heaven, being manipulated this way and that.
Have any of you sitters been asked to massage a cat as part of a daily routine? I would do that happily, if it wasn’t a cat that was prone to scratching or biting, but it’s hard to tell how an unfamiliar cat will behave with a stranger.
I did sit the gentlest of cats once, who loved brushing and belly rubs, and liked being cradled like a baby, at least for spurts. And when he didn’t want more, he’d just hop off.
I had a cat that was like this! I’ve never been asked to massage a cat on a sit, but I would do it in a heartbeat. I have found that many cats like to to be massaged under their arms.
This was not a massage as such, but every evening I’d groom this dog with a gentle brush, at the request of his owners. You can see my feet near the dog’s head. He loved this daily pampering and fell asleep within minutes.
Once COVID came along the owners had him change to a short haircut which he kept from therein in. When I did a return sit, no more ‘cat naps’ on my legs.
I did a sit for 2 cats in Italy where the HO warned me that one of their cats. A large ginger cat would climb up me every chance he got as he liked to be held like a baby and would want to stay like this for hours and could fall asleep like this. Sure enough first night he climbed up me and demanded to be held.
Not had any other cats that have been like this.
As a teenager we had a rather expensive chocolate orange Persian cat called Amy that loved to throw herself on her back on the polished kitchen wood floor waiting to be spun round! You had to stop as she’d purr and demand you did it for hours making her rather dizzy!!
Through housesitting, we’ve had a surprising number of handover conversations with Pet Parents where we’ve had to politely ask them to repeat a pet care/food instruction … as the first explanation was sufficiently surprising as to make us wonder if they were joking
