Caught out for first time!

Turned up for our next housesit mid afternoon, caring for 3 dogs, 10 days.
On arrival casualy mentions that only 2 dogs BUT plus 4 puppies ! they had hoped to have sold them by the sit time.
House not ready for us, Bed not made (we had to make it) we popped out for a meal as house in chaos.
They left early morning and we came down to dishwasher full of dirty pots plus sink also full of pots.
Lovely people but totally not ready for us.
Suppose it had to happen, but why not keep us in the loop regarding the puppies?

As this sitting is now not as listed, you have the right to cancel. Contact Membership Services for support.
Having looked after 2 puppies and 2 dogs (this was on another site, we agreed to it, we were paid very well) we would never look after puppies again.
You will not be able to go out for very long, you will be cleaning up after them none stop.
I really recommend that you think carefully about this, contact the host for them to make alternative arrangements, run!!

I would also be very tempted to cancel, give them 24 hours notice and go. 4 puppies!! Are they new HO? This should be a paid sit.

Mm, thought about it but decided to stay however I agree with your comments but just shows how HO can withhold truth until last minute

No way I’d stay. 24 hours’ notice. Then I’m gone.

Your choice of course but be sure to mark down the categories for accuracy of listing and communication when you review.
No excuse for not letting you know the situation.
The puppies may seem cute now but way too much work for me! :dog::dog::dog::dog:
And you still have the adult dogs to care for.
Their lack of preparation for your arrival is shameful.
Let us know how you get on :crossed_fingers:

How old are the puppies ?

Sorry but no. That’s disgraceful behaviour. Absolutely would have walked in and straight back out because people like that don’t deserve the level of care and consideration we make for every sit.

You have the right to cancel. You don’t owe these people anything. They aren’t very lovely people at all to have done a bait and switch on you.

Good question @Silversitters. If the puppies are less than 8 weeks then the whole ‘hoped to have sold them by the sit time’ story is baloney.

You’re being way more kind than I would be. In my mind they’re exactly the opposite of what lovely people are.

They have to have known for days that the puppies weren’t sold, and they CHOSE to not inform you ahead of time because they KNEW they were pulling a fast one.

Please for the sake of all the rest of the sitters they need a review of way less than 5 stars, in several categories.

What an outrageous situation. I would have left. This is not at all what you agreed to. PLEASE, for the love of all sitters, write an HONEST review. Multiple categories should be 1 start and, IMO, the sit itself should be 1 star. They are liars and pulled a bait and switch. I’ve had it done to me too and I ended up leaving.

they are just 13 weeks

We will certainly make sure the review reflects everything

I think you know the answer……I can’t understand why the owner would even think of leaving 13 week old puppies. As someone else says, please write an honest review

I will certainly do that

Oh dear, that’s not on, you’ve got a full time job on your hands now, if you’re staying I hope you didn’t have plans during your stay. By the way you’ve said ‘lovely people’ I presume you are embracing the moment and going with the flow and having puppy fun for a while, much as it’s far from being right. You’ve definitely got to mention that in your review.

One of the potential unintended consequences of staying when hosts bait and switch (or do other egregious things) is that you review honestly and your review then signals to other creepy hosts that you’re a sitter who can be taken advantage of, unfortunately, because you’ll stay when other sitters won’t.

They totally did that on purpose.

I say that as a breeder of several planned purebred litters. There are so many blessings having and caring for puppies, but one of the major is still finding new homes and let them fly out in the world at 8 weeks. Even their mum is tired of them at that point.

For new homes that is in many ways also the «Best before»-date as many new owners - rightfully so - think it a disadvantage when the puppies are older. So an experienced breeder would know that a puppy not sold at 8 weeks then will be a hard one, and they could and should have told you at least a month ago. They didn’t, and one would think to not let you have the opportunity to cancel. Larger puppies are really a handful, and I would go to great lengths not to have the responsibility for four, even if they were my own. Well, what the hosts thought also, I guess. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Are the homeowners brand new to TH? It seems that there are many problems arising from newly onboarded H.O.s who don’t really understand the equal exchange idea. You came to sit their beloved mature pets and have now been recruited to work (for free) in their business (raising and selling puppies). I love puppies but they are a full time job. Please mention all of this in your review if you decide to stay.
