Curious what other sitters think about celebrating a pets birthday or “gotcha day” while the owners are away?
There’s a good chance that we will be missing our boys 4th birthday…and yes he is so spoiled we typically like to give him a cake to share with his friends and a small Paw-ty. Would it be a fair request to ask our sitters (prior to making the agreement) if they would be so kind as to pick up his pre paid pup-cake? or to make him something special?
As a sitter myself I wouldn’t want to feel obligated to go to extreme lengths for a pet…but I love any occasion to celebrate and if a HO asked me to help celebrate their pet I would feel so excited…but that could just be me
Here’s a photo of his second birthday paw-ty for reference… Please feel free to show off any pets you have celebrated over the years!
Include dates in the Welcome Guide Pet Section, we could also celebrate on Social and get many more Happy PawDay wishes (with their family’s permission of course) no obligation for sitters to participate of course but it could be fun … Pet Parents would love the pics and pawties would make great forum posts too
This is absolutely adorable and, heck yes, we’d be up for having a birthday party for pups! Inviting his/her friends and their parents over, with owner approval, would also be super fun. Anyone that is dog-centric enough to go to another dog’s birthday party is our kind of people!!
I’m currently on a pet sit and one of the dogs had a birthday a week ago. They asked me if I’d be willing to pick up a free pup cup from Starbucks for her and give her one of the frozen dog treats from the freezer, which we totally obliged with and sent them photos of the girls enjoying the treats.
I would absolutely do something special for an owners pets birthday if I was housesitting and they asked. I always celebrate my pups birthday too. He is a rescue so we don’t know his real birthday, but decided to make it the day The Animal Pad dog rescue saved him. I figured it was the day he was born into his new life, a better life. One filled with lots of birthday PAWtys!
@Kelly As sitters, we would be MORE THAN happy to honor this type of request! In fact, we’ve thrown parties for pets without being asked, if we knew of the big day! Here’s Miss Kitty on her 20th birthday!
