Hello, everyone! Rebecca from North Carolina here! Glad to have joined ya’ll yesterday as a new (but lifelong, experienced pet sitter) Sitter!
I have applied to 2 sits so far but haven’t heard back, yet. It’s been just over 24 hours since I applied. Is that common for the homeowner to not get back right away? Just wanted to make sure I am doing it right.
Bonjour Rebecca and Welcome among our THS family ! You may want to check an assignment soon to be posted by my daughter Gabrielle about her three friendly dogs ( back yard fenced-in ) and one cat in Nashville TN. I think a long week-end in May. I 'll tell her about you if you are interested,
Brigitte
Bonjour, Brigitte! Comment allez vous? Thank you for the suggestion! Yes, Gabrielle’s listing for Nashville in May for a long weekend with 3 friendly pups and 1 kitty would be so wonderful - thank you! I will look for her ad soon. I am Rebecca and my husband is Ross. We are experienced pet sitters (lifelong love of all animals) and new to TrustedHouseSitters and excited to begin the adventure.
Welcome to our community forum Rebecca, it’s great to have you here … great to hear you are applying for sits already, amazing. Be patient though, you bring great experience with you and there’s also plenty of support available from the community, also from our dedicated Membership Services Team … don’t be shy to ask any questions, it’s what we are all here for and we will all benefit from your pet sitter journey.
Enjoy the conversations and connecting with other members … looking forward to getting to know you better and sharing in your “new” sitting journey with THS.
Rebecca: Welcome to the forum! What part of NC are you in? I am in Georgia, but I have been sitting in the Carolinas. We will be in Asheville at the end of next month. It seems like sits are starting to pick up in volume now. You may want to start to apply for short, local, last minute sits and close-by sits in areas that are not very popular. It is a little challenging to get started, but once you get a couple under your belt, it gets easier. Good luck and be patient.
Thank you so much for the advice and encouragement, Southernsitter! We live in Boone, NC. We were hoping to get a sit in Asheville for May but they had too many requests. Like you said, I will keep trying - especially with the last minute, close by sits. Every place is a place to explore for us and it’s all about the animals anyway! Have a great day! -Rebecca
Hey guys! I have a question about becoming a sitter and I hope you all could help me and this is the right group for this. I’m only 20 years old but I read that you have to be 21 years old to become a member. Is it possible for me to find a house to sit although I’m 20 years old? It would be in Germany anyway, where you are of legal age at 18. Thanks for your help!
Greetings, Viktoria
Welcome @Vicky it’s great that you want to join our pet loving community and start a pet sitting lifestyle but we do have a minimum age limit of 21 which is company policy and nothing to do with the legal age of consent.
My advice would be to get as much pet care experience as you can, volunteer at a shelter, pet sit for family and friends so that when you are able to join you will have references showing you have experience, are reliable, responsible and the person an owner would be confident to trust with the full and complete care of their home and pets.
Always look on the responsibility from the pet owners point of view and talk to other home and pet owners about what they would look for in an in home pet sitter, remember you are asking owners to trust you completely with two possessions they value most in the world.
Thank you again for connecting with our community, it’s a great place to start … Good luck!
Merci beaucoup, Brigitte! I connected with Gabby and she accepted our application! Yay! Thank you so much for helping us make this connection! We will treat her babies and home very well!
