Feedback on my listing

I’ve just moved house and area so have updated my listing, but I’ve received no applications although I have been added to favourites by quite a few people…any suggestions?

Hello, you might want to check out my post 5 common mistakes to avoid for a successful listing

I also took a look at your listing and can suggest the following:

1: nice title, I like it!

2: Your listing’s current profile picture is your sofa… you might want to change that to a nice image of Cornwall. Nice pictures though! You might want to replace the first image of the fish tank, as I can’t see anything and cannot work out what the image is.

3: Rather than being an autobiography, your intro needs to immediately sell your sit and tell sitters why they should choose you. Give my 5 mistakes post a read for further info about this.

4: Your home and location section is far too long and detailed. Large bodies of text that are not broken up into paragraphs and subtitles are tiresome to read, and are likely to be skimmed over or stopped being read half way through. Remember this is an advert and brief overview only, not your welcome guide, so don’t get them confused. Use brief dot points and break your text up with clear paragraphs and sub headings. My 5 mistakes post should help you.

5: Responsibilities section is fine, but perhaps try using simple dot points to help readers clearly understand responsibilities.

Hope that helps!

My post was also turned into a blog for THS, which you can find here:

Rearrange the order of your pics.

You start with a pic of a sofa (we can get that anywhere lol), start with the main selling point of your place, such as one of the exterior ones showing your home, and put your best ones first. Also it’s confusing from the pics ALONE which bed is the sitters, remove the bed setter one all together to save any confusion at first glance, because if they miss the double bed pic, you’ve lost them, and they will click away without reading on if it doesn’t suit them.

Well done for moving over to the Forum from the FB group I told you it’d be more useful as some very experienced knowledgeable members are here :+1: also you can ask about boosting your listing if it becomes last minute, I think it it’s less than 7 days it can get boosted but others will know more about how this works?

I agree about the 1st photo needing to be what makes a sitter want to apply.

Also, do the master bedroom windows have curtains? It looks like they dont which might put sitters off.

Hi, there are blinds, I could add info to photo description…

Thank you all for the feedback, I’ve spent the majority of the day so far updating my profile with new photos and recording them. I’ll take another look at my text and see what can be cut out - I’m normally too brief in my writings! Thank you all for taking time to give feedback. It’s much appreciated

Hi, someone else suggested start with the sofa as I did have the front window view! It’s now a photo of the terriers?

The dog pic is perfect too, either the home, the garden, or the pets is perfect.

Good luck

Your listing is 100% better and you’ve dealt with the ‘chair’ issue brilliantly (wink wink!)
I hope you get a great sitter because you really deserve to as you’ve been so responsive to all the great advice. I’m told that you can refresh the listing to make it ‘new’ …. and boost it up the listings but others will advise on this.

@HermioneB That’s a great choice of first photo with the 2 dogs. I also like the detailed information in your listing. Bed sizes and the fact that the day bed converts to a double is super helpful. I have to disagree with @HappyDeb’s suggestion to remove the photo pf the second bed. Not all sitters are singles or couples, and even some couples prefer a second bed to be available to escape snoring! We like to see photos of all available beds where possible!

You can always tell someone has been busy reading and digesting the advice on the forum when the listing mentions sharp knives, can openers and a salad spinner!

It’d be good to know if the dogs are happy in the car, ie, could the sitter take them out (Dartmoor, the beach).

Given that you can offer two bedrooms, are the dogs comfortable with children? You could add the family friendly tag in that case.
