Getting in quick!

I am looking for a pet sit in Dubai.
I don’t always see the notifications so I am spending so much time checking in to see if there is anything available.
Sits are being reviewed as quickly as 20 minutes after they are posted as obviously it’s much wanted.
Any ideas?
Thanks x

Unfortunately it’s all about luck and timing with high demand sits. I’d favorite the sits if you can’t apply. Maybe the HO will reach out to you directly if none of the other applicants work. Yet another example of the stupid 5 app limit making things worse rather than better.

It might be because of the season - doesn’t seem to be many in Dubai now and I guess many would be interested in a Christmas sit?

This summer there were loads of Dubai sits and they seemed to stay open for quite some time. Probably not so many would like to go in summer? While many in Dubai would visit their «homeland»? Cause the Dubai-hosts seem to be expats and not locals. So understanding their pattern could help. I would guess there would be more summer sits. I also noticed this summer that quite a few sits there were kind of last minute, so being prepared for that could help.

In regard to notifications, for a popular in-demand location 20 minutes could even be «a long time» as some sits are gone in less than 5 min. One need to be on top of notifications if one wants to be among the applicants. But it can help you to know that if you manage to open it and hit the application button (so the application mode opens) you can view the listing while the tab is open. I think you can keep it like that for 10 min or something. So you can take a look of the listing while writing the application. It also happens a lot that a host would decline one or more applicants (or they withdraw) during the process which opens an application spot for more applicants.

In fact, there’s a last minute one active right now and I have been seeing another for the last few days.

Thankyou,
I just thought there might be a better way of doing things instead of my constant watching but obviously not.
I am staying with friends so flexible with dates (wanting any part of 5 weeks so I don’t overload my visitors).
I dont want too many pets to care for but I have seen some that are very suitable for me that I have missed.
Thanks for answering, I will keep trying!

I have learnt from this thread that if someone stops reviewing they add another reviewer so adding something as a favorite is useful.
Great information Thankyou.
Everyone has been very helpful, new to TrustedHousesitters so haven’t got the hang of it yet.

@Ruth5 , To be honest, if a sit in a desirable place lasts for 20 minutes before going to reviewing , that is a long time!

Two minutes is not uncommon - if you do see one appear, don’t hang around checking flights, dates, listing information, or putting the kettle on thinking you have 20 minutes to spare - apply immediately to secure your place.

Good Luck!

Colin, wow, I didn’t realise that, still hoping just don’t want to checking the app so often.
Thanks for reply,

Seems like a lot of it is down to luck on plenty of occasions, better to know that, will lessen my disappointment I hope x

There was a recent post by an Owner.

The Owner said that that he received 5 applications very quickly. He rapidly responded to all of them, and 3 of those never responded to him!!!

Wow!

What does that mean? Very strange…

Anyway, if you are a REAL applicant, it would be best to make that VERY CLEAR in your initial application.

Everyone is pretty sure there are bots that immediately apply to sits that fit certain criteria with a generic message to hold the spot. Then the profile owner will go back later to do an actual application if it fits their needs.
