Help Topics Need to do Better

So another thing that isnt the sitter’s job, but winds up being the sitter’s job is tech stuff like trying to make changes to dates. I think when homeowners want to change the date, some sitters probably don’t bother asking them to make it official, but if they do, the sitter will likely have to research the steps if they don’t know and encourage the homeowner to do it. If the homeowner is tech-adverse this may seem like kind of a burden and like the sitter is being a stickler and annoying.

I was just in the situation. I’m combined but I never did a date change before on a confirmed sit. But the host contacted me to ask if I could come up a day earlier and leave a day earlier. I looked over the help and thought I had it right, but I didn’t realize there was a final step. That final step is NOT mentioned in the help on website! So when I gave the homeowner the steps which we didn’t do together in “real” time, I didn’t realize that after she changes the date, and I confirm that I can do those dates, she needs to confirm again that she’s confirming ME to do those dates.

This is probably how some sits remain mysteriously unconfimred and people only discover the issue when they try to right reviews or if something goes wrong.

THS really needs to audit and update the help pages to make sure the processes are complete. They also need to work more with homeowners and sitters to make sure both sides understand why confirming the sit is important.

It would be great if the system itself was set up so that if a sit is unconfirmed and the date is coming up BOTH sides would get a warning.

Rant over!

Hi @Marion

Thank you for the feedback - I’ve passed that over to the team. If there’s any updates I can bring back to you, I will

Hi @Marion

The team had a quick look at this, and I wanted to share the feedback with you, and see if there might be more info that you could give us.

They checked these articles:

How do I confirm a sitter & How do I change my dates during the sit.

They then confirmed that if a member needs to change dates whilst on the sit, they’ll need to contact Membership Services.

If a member would like to change dates before the sit begins, they’ll need to unconfirm the sitter and follow the steps from the article: How do I confirm a sitter

They double-checked the steps in these articles, and they were correct.

If you were looking at a different article, could you please let us know? We’d be happy to ask the team to take another look if it wasn’t one of the articles listed above.

This is the article:
https://support.trustedhousesitters.com/hc/en-gb/articles/19332658319773-Can-I-change-the-dates-of-my-sit-when-I-already-have-a-sitter-confirmed

Here are the steps in the article:

"To change the dates of a confirmed sit via the website:

  • Log into your account
  • Click on your profile photo in the top right-hand corner and select ‘Dashboard’
  • Select ‘Manage’ under the dates you’d like to amend
  • Click ‘Edit dates’ and select the dates you’d like to change them to
  • Select ‘Continue’
  • Click ‘Confirm and update’"

Here is what is missing and WHY some sits will remain in limbo and neither side will realize anything is amiss until review time or something happens:

After the host changes the dates, the sitter will receive the dates. The sitter must then confirm. After the sitter confirms, the sit still doesn’t exist! The host must reconfirm the sitter. Neither the host nor the sitter might realize this unless they happen to be on the app.

If the sitter notices this, the sitter will need to contact the host and tell them they need to reconfirm. The burden is on the sitter to do this to make sure the sit is confirmed.

IMO, the instrucitons themselves should include all the steps and some of this stuff should involve automatic notifications if a sit is unconfirmed after a certain number of days in the system so that both parties are aware. The party that needs to take the action really needs notification from THS.

Thanks @Marion - appreciate the detail!

I’ve passed this over to the team along with a note of your post.

I’m finishing up for a week now, so if there’s any feedback, @Mark_B can hopefully pass that along in my absence

Hi! Just wanted to say I’m so grateful for this app and also community forum! THS has 100% changed my life for the better!
The only slight issue I’m finding at the moment is the Map function - when browsing housesits and you click on a location, sometimes it jolts and takes you to a completely different sit location. That’s my only comment at the moment! Thanks x

You should be able to hit the back button and return to the previous map. At least that’s how it works on the website, which is what I primarily use.
