Simon and Jenny here newly signed up to TH. We have just listed our house and are thrilled to see our first applicant who we hope to talk to tonight. We are completely new to house sitting but it seems to be the ideal solution particularly when you live out in the sticks and its not easy to arrange care for your animals. I dreaded having to put our friendly Retriever into a kennel whilst we were away. She likes her home comforts! I just hope whoever comes to sit for us enjoys the wonderful spot we are so lucky to live in.
Ooh Ludlow, now that I’d go for with the company of your lovely dog. You’re in the right place and will have no problem finding excellent sitters, and looks like you didn’t have to wait long! Good luck!
@JenWren Welcome to THS & great that you may have found your first Sitter. We, also, are House Owners & live just outside of Clun, Shropshire. As you say it is a wonderful area to live.
Ludlow is definitely on my list of places I want to visit some day. Welcome to the forum!
Hi @JenWren welcome to our community forum and to TrustedHousesitters thank you for joining us from beautiful Ludlow. I have been fortunate to do two sits in your part of the world and would return, as they say “In a heartbeat”
If you have any questions or need any help please don’t hesitate to ask our community they will be happy to help, you will also find really informative articles on the website blog …
I hope your sitter chat goes well this evening and that you find your friendly Retriever’s sitters .
Enjoy connecting with our members and we look forward to sharing in your THS journey.

Hi @JenWren and welcome! I had to search for your listing as Shropshire is somewhere we haven’t explored much at all, even though we are not very far away in Gloucestershire. I’ve just added your listing to my favourites. I just love that photo of Bella smiling standing in the river - I think my almost 13 year old son would be in the water with her in no time! Unfortunately our school holidays don’t quite match your dates or I think we would have also applied. Hopefully another time…
@JenWren - Ludlow looks like a wonderful area! Welcome to THS, we are homeowners and just began sitting. You will find wonderful sitters and it will give you such a piece of mind! Enjoy your travels
Thanks that’s good to hear you have had good experience
Jen
Thanks for your message Debbie. Bella is a very easy dog to look after and is very fun loving. She has loved the river since we brought her home as a puppy and my daughter played with her in the water a lot during the summer months.

Thanks all those who have replied with their positive experiences. It’s good to hear for us newbies. Our sitter applicant has unfortunately already accepted another sit so we are still looking and hoping.
@JenWren Hello I know Ludlow well, it’s full of history and a lovely place to visit. I’m sure you will find a sitter from this welcoming TH community. good luck.
Hi @JenWren and welcome. I’m not able to help with the sit, but do suggest a way that those on the forum can view your listing. I just searched Ludlow, England and came up with 29 sits. If you embed your listing in your forum username, forum members will be able to view your sit. I’ll add the instructions on how to do it here.
Adding your listing to your username
I hope this helps others view your listing, and that you find a good housemate for Bella while you travel.
Many thanks. I have just followed the simple instructions and it worked!
Thanks - people are so kind on this site. We found a lovely Dutch couple to look after Bella so we are very happy about that.
@JenWren That’s great to hear. I’m so happy for Bella. I will warn you that sometimes sitters can give more time and attention to the pets than their owners. It’s a little like how often grandparents can be with their grandchildren.
Don’t be offended if Bella doesn’t miss you as much as you might expect. I’ve done sits where the homeowners arrived home, I had to stay overnight because of their schedule, and the dog chose to sleep in my room, even though I’d moved the dog’s bed back into the owners’ room. I had another time where the dog chose a spot mid-way along a long hallway between the two rooms, and slept on the bare floor even though their bed was in the owners’ room. Conflicted, or caring for all of us maybe? I’m not sure which.
