can the home owner request flight details from the pet sitter 3 days after they talk? is it also possible to request an identity card from the pet sitter?
More than happy to supply flight details but definitely not an identity card after just three days. I did when I was being added to a homeowner’s car insurance policy in the UK but that meant the sit was definitely confirmed and set by both parties with little to no chance of anything changing.
Have you already accepted the sit? If they have not given you the sit yet expecting you to have flights booked is a bit much.
I’ve done a number of international sits and would always provide travel details as soon as I have made them. I always try to arrive with enough time that any delays wouldn’t cause them problems.
Once the sit has been confirmed officially on the THS site I would be happy to go ahead and book flights/ferries and then send the homeowner proof of travel. Certainly not before.
Yes we both confirmed the sits. But she didnt reply to me…
@Rizah21 - do I understand that you are the homeowner and not the sitter?
I sent a screen shot of my flights to a home owner for a confirmed sit. I traveled from over 5,000 miles so I thought it was fair or me to do so. I’d like that reassurance as a home owner if the sitter was coming from far away. I don’t think a home owner should dictate when you purchase your flights so I would kindly tell them they will be forwarded when purchased. I’d also be willing to send a copy of my identification.
You can request info of any kind @Rizah21 but as @Twitcher asks, which are you…the owner or the sitter? You can exchange info. It’s not fair IMO to ask for added ID for either party as that is the whole purpose of being on THS but, flight stuff and contact info is a great plan for all involved. Best of luck
I’m a sitter and I’d be more than happy to give them those requests if a sit was confirmed.
I think it’s only natural that an HO would want to relax about things with regard to flight details. For all they know, there may not be a direct flight from your place to theirs, or they may only run twice a week, which could create a huge hassle for both parties, or maybe the sitter found out the flight costs were too expensive for them. I don’t think they are asking for much really.
Not my thread. I think you meant to tag @Rizah21
We’ve never been asked to provide flight details but we always do- once we’ve confirmed them! If the hosts are also flying we ask for their flight details too. It gives extra reassurance on both sides- that both parties are committed to their respective trips. And it also happened once that hosts, on sending us their flight details, realised they had mixed up dates/timings! It not affect the sit but it did help with our travel planning!
We would not provide any ID though- except drivers licence if going on the hosts insurance policy.
Hi @Rizah21
As a sitter after my sit is agreed I book flights immediately and send a screenshot to the HO so they know everything is booked. I send this via whatsapp post a video chat I have with the HO.
I don’t book airfare until I’ve accepted a sit. Once that happens, I’m happy to share that info, but only one HO has asked for “proof,” and it was one who’d been burned by two sitters.
If someone asked me for ID, as well as travel “proof,” I’d figure they’re nervous / maybe first-timers / possibly have low trust. I’d pass on such sits, because it’s riskier for the sitter to end up with someone who’s needy or over demanding and odds seem higher for a bad review.
Note: THS has already verified my ID and has a copy. Plus, I’ve gone through a background check, since I’m a sitter from the U.S.
