Are you a member? There are few opportunities in Cape Town so I wouldn’t have high hopes. You might consider having folks review your profile to make sure it’s polished up and ready to go. First tip: don’t use all caps. It’s considered rude and that you’re screaming at people.

I am not currently a member and i would love to become one. I am not gonna lie i am not very experienced in this field as i have just started out hence its been difficult for me to actually get in and also thank you for your advice :slight_smile:

You should try local FB pages to see if anyone in your area is looking for sitters. To find sits here you have to apply and pay the membership.
When you say that you’re willing to go anywhere, have you already taken into consideration airfare and living costs in other countries?

and visa costs given they’d likely have to apply for visas for the countries with the most sits.

May I also suggest that you don’t call this an “industry”? Here on THS you don’t get paid, it’s not a job. It’s considered an exchange: you get to stay in the homeowners’ house and provide care for it and the pets.

@Endyy To get sits through this platform, you will need to become a paid member and set up a profile explaining why you sit, what you offer, and nice photos of you, preferably with pets. And you will need a reference or two. There are not too many housesits in Cape Town - maybe about 5 on average at any one time. Sometimes just 1-2, other times about 6-8 listings. So yes, not great scope. As someone said, there may be Facebook groups with more opportunities.

2 couples will meet for dinner at the Waterfront tomorrow night (29 Oct), if you wanted to join and you can ask more detailed questions then?

A big thanks to everyone who contributed and advised me. I now have some understanding of the job and those who replied on the moving part, I think i did not initially think of all those additional costs of moving to another country so now i understand i would not be able to and the person who wanted to meet today please tell me more information on that THANKS :slight_smile:

But again, it’s not a job, you wouldn’t be moving to another country (unless I’m missing a different meaning of these words).
It’s for people who want to travel, be on vacation and take care of someone else’s pet at the same time.

@Peonie19 I love the way you put it , i have pets of my own and i really wanted to do house sitting because its something familiar , i have taken care of family friends pets before so i thought i could do it now but earn some bucks so that is what i have been trying to figure out right now.

TrustedHouseSitters isn’t the website for you, everyone petsits for free on here. There is no money to be made. You will need to try different websites if you want payment. In fact, it costs to become a member, there is no way of earning any money on here from pet sitting.

@HappyDeb Thank you for making that clear for me i did not know that this is some sort of non profit website awwh all the people who do pet sitting for free here have such good hearts and that takes love and care for animals i am in awe :innocent:
