Sometimes I need to be in a particular area (while I WFH) and would prefer to spend time with pets and would enjoy helping out a fellow HO/pet owner. Lots of 5* experience on TH. If HOs knew they could book a sitter, perhaps they would enjoy planning a trip during that time.
How is the best way to do this?

The only way to do it @pdr is to change your location on your profile to where you want to sit & then favourite sits that you like the look of and hope the stars align. You can also save the area itself and set an alert for your date range and new sits will pop up. You can’t offer your availability in the same way a sit is shown. #thatstheworkround
And one could write something in the header of one’s profile, that one is looking for certain periods in some city.
On THS, it is much less common than on paid sites that HOs seek out sitters. I now joined a Dutch site where it is the other way around. My applications led to nothing, but I was invited to a nice sit in the woods. And now I wrote those dates and location on my profile there, hoping a bit that someone else might also want to have me sit before or after that one.
