My petsit was confirmed 12 days ago and I have not heard from the homeowner since. The sit starts in 2 days and I have messaged consecutively the last 3 days just to make sure everything was still a go. It shows that the messages are still unread. I left my phone number but they did not give me their contact information. This it is a little over 1 hour away even though I’ve traveled like up to 12 hours for different ones. Would you go to the house at without a follow-up confirmation? It would be a waste of 2 hours of my time driving there and back if no one is there or they don’t need me. There should be another way to contact a homeowner or can trusted house sitters contact them some way on our behalf?
Hi @Chantylly
Do you have any external contact info for the HO? When I ask to do a video chat via whatsapp I grab the HO 's phone number. Better not to rely solely on THS inbox tbh.
I’d contact THS support asap via the chat function on the website and ask to speak to a human. Explain you can’t reach the HO and you have a sit about to start. You can also contact them via email but they may take a day or so to respond this way.
Well, it’s only two hours, and who knows what has happened? Maybe their computer broke… I’m surprised you didn’t connect on something else before the sit though, that’s important I think.
So, I’d go there in full expectation of everything working out and just something has broken.
Oh yeah - and if THS support can help, even better.
I would probably go as the confirmation was only 12 days ago. Some HOs are not much on the site.
Do you have a name or something and try a search on the internet or on Facebook?
I do think it is a problem and could be an observation point to a future sit to have other ways of contacting HO and might be a possible mention on communication in review.
But for the situasjon you describe I would go.
Although this is not the ideal communication, I wouldn’t definitely do a “no show”.
I would either try THS to contact them or just wait , they will probably contact you shortly before. As you are so close they may feel confident about you getting there on time and not check the site.
Even if it is a local sit, it’s very important to have an alternative means of communication.
This is actually my first housesit that we didn’t have a phone call or video call beforehand. She confirmed me and we just texted through the site. I won’t do that again. But luckily shortly after I posted this she finally responded with the confirmation and sent me manual that I had been requesting. Seems like it’s working out this time but I will never not have any other contact information and will always request some type of phone call or video call.
Learned your lesson there! I’m happy this turned out well; enjoy your sit!
Wonderful to hear! Have a great sit!
That’s great news! I’ve learnt the same lesson too going through our first confirmation process, so you’re definitely not alone! Hope it’s a smooth and happy house-sit for you
