I have friends who are interested in joining THS, I’ve told them positives and negatives but they will learn a lot from various posting in the forums, before joining.
Can you join the forum site without being a member of THS?
Yes, the forum is open to nonmembers, too.
If they read the forum, they might never join at all because of all the horror stories. But yes, membership here is separate. I wax a member here too before I paid for THS.
I would never ever ask someone to join the forum first. It’s full of people with problems, doom and gloom, they would never sign up if they read the things on here first. Whereas in reality most on THS have an amazing experience.
Personally I’d point them in the direction of Trustpilot to read the reviews about THS. That is a much better direction and gives a true reflection, instead of a forum where people only post when there is something gone wrong for them.
I want them to look at it from all perspectives and go into it with eyes fully wide open.
Better to see a wide variety of potential issues in advance of paying to join
Frankly, I think the forum will give them a much more negative view. Must of the posts I read in the forum involve stuff that is opposite my experience as a sitter and as homeowner. Some stuff has been useful. but if I just read the forum I’d be imagining a lot of the terrible stuff is the norm. Probably it’s better if you’ve had good experiences, to think about why and how and just tell your friends about that.
We have had 2 good stays and 2 bad stays, so even if i recounted our experiences, it would be even at best. I like to be open and honest, and if they do decide to join, their eyes will be wide open
Well… if they then select the reviews where stars were deducted, they would see some stuff that would really scare them away. Here on this forum, we often get some further clarifications and then things were maybe not as bad as they seemed when going by the first message of the thread.
I send my actual THS profile link and an active listing or two when I chat with someone about joining the site.
They can see all details on those without being a member, simply can’t apply. This provides a glimpse into the reviews of sitters + HOs and I chat through the 5 applicant process and how folks have background checks similar to Rover, etc. Have a couple of recent referrals after introducing the site in that manner.
