Thanks @Colin for letting us know. You don’t see year long, house only sits very often!
Yes I saw this too contributions to utilities required, which is reasonable for a years sit .
Ooh, I might keep my house rented out and stay there instead!
Just read it. No visitors or overnight guests are allowed, which is a big ask. I’ll stick with my original plans.
Not eligible anyway, but this doesn’t look like the deal of the century. I couldn’t figure out whether one of the figures was annaul or monthly, but if monthly it’s really more of a sublet. It’s just an ordinary apartment and not clear what the furniture situation even is. It sounds more like a low cost sublet. It’s probably a good deal for someone, but not a great opportunity for sitters who use THS because they want to experience new places, unique homes, and loving pets.
So is that around 700-725 USD? For electric, gas, water, internet, TV, property tax? They want you to pay their property tax? That is rent. But no guests.
they say monthly for both
does it have linens?
I can’t stay in the UK for a year anyway, but the listing could use better photos. It’s hard to get a sense of the space. They also don’t include any photos of the outside space, but mention mowing and weeding. The utilities amount sounds high for what appears to be a small place. I don’t know what council tax is. Is that like a property tax?
I would certainly be leery of a long sit for a HO with no reviews, but they have 2 applicants.
I get that they allow owners to charge for utilities, but taxes too? This really sounds like a sublet.
(Edited to meet posting guidelines)
Altrincham is one of the best neighbourhoods in the Northwest of England.
I’d be negotiating the ‘no guests’ rule but if anyone is looking to settle for a year, £500 a month is a bargain!
Personally I think the owners would be better off renting their home with letting agents involved. What if something happens to the sitters and they can’t stay for a year? It would be difficult for the owners to sort out new sitters.
I don’t think agents will be taking on any more short term lets since tenancy law is due to change in the UK giving tenants far greater rights to stay in a property if they are paying their rent on time, and causing no problems.
If it was me, I would give it to someone to list on Airbnb for me. They would get £100-£300 a night for a house in Altrincham. (probably more for event nights!)
Interesting they ask for applicants with 10+ 5 star reviews & are completely new themselves to THS.
I am wondering if we all saw the same listing? You mention a lot of things I haven’t read at all?!
But then they would have to arrange cleaning, more likelihood of things breaking. More hassles. This way they get their basic costs covered, the home is looked after. But would you have to pay upfront? What if you stopped paying? THS isn’t going to make you pay.
I checked out that listing when it first came out. Thought it could be a great ‘lie low and save money sit’ till I read about all the utilities to pay etc and no visitors or even dinner guests allowed- during a whole year sit!! Very controlling!!
My first thought was why don’t they rent it and earn a whole lot more money?! But then they would not be able to control the ‘sitter-tenants’! Anyway no good for me as my hubby is German and cannot stay more than 6 months in the UK- even with an English wife!!!
Fortunately I am a dual citizen so we could take a 1 year sit in the EU. But would not do so with those restrictions or costs!
@ Colin. Totallly agree with you. Rental properties in similar to this in Yorkshire approx £800 to £1000pm. This would not include any council tax or any other bills. This sit for roughly£500 per month including bills is brilliant. Ideal if your saving up for a deposit. It wouldn’t be feasible to pay up front as fuel bills would differ. I certainly wouldn’t use £180 pm much less
Can’t you travel together to the UK for longer periods with a spouse visa?
My husband is Greek and travelling is so much more complicated for us since Brexit - we are hoping to try out the freedom of movement law this year but I am nervous of being denied entrance at the gate!
