Hello all
I am pretty new and excited to the community until my beloved e-bike got stolen while i was out walking the dogs , from inside of the owners garage.!!
She was moved to this location after i secured the sit -only two weeks after moving to a bad and unsafe neibourhood. I have called the police and all reports and documents are avialble. unfortunately, her insurance and my content insurance has declined payment and she has show me a cold feet and not answering my texts or emails. THS as well has declined my insurance as sitter and not confirmed through owners insurance , i am stuck!! anyone has had this bad experience with THS and owners before?
I am sorry to hear about this…I am sure it was very upsetting. I can’t comment at all if there is anything you can do about the claims being denied through your insurance or hers.
When you talk about THS declining your insurance as a sitter, if you are referring to the ‘insurance’ that comes with a premium membership, there is nothing in there about personal property. It covers liability if a pet in your care injures someone or causes damage, and accommodation expenses up to a certain amount in the event of a cancellation.
As for the host not answering your messages, what exactly are you sending her messages about? Are you expecting her to give you money? Are you asking her to get in touch with her insurance company again? I don’t know the exact circumstances legally speaking, but I would imagine she would not bear any responsibility for this. While reimbursing you at least partially could be a kind gesture, she is under no obligation to do so, and even if she wanted to, may not have the means.
And THS certainly wouldn’t be liable in any way–if isn’t as if us sitters are their employees whom they assign to sits. and they are responsible for anything ‘bad’ that could happen to us. They are not a direct party to the arrangements between hosts and sitters, and their sole purpose is serving as a matching platform.
Whether you decided to do the sit anyway even after learning she wasn’t living in a good neighborhood, or you weren’t aware what it was like there, and she didn’t share any info nor did you ask any questions about the new location, this is one of those things that you can chalk up as a valuable learning experience.
Again, sorry to hear about this and good luck!
I am sorry your bike was stolen, was the garage locked? Mostly they don’t come under contents insurance and often are a stand alone policy like a car. I doubt the insurance for the owner would pay as it’s not her own property. Personally I wouldn’t expect her to pay for it and THS wouldn’t be able to offer this kind of insurance. Other than the police being able to recover it there is not much you can do. Annoying as it is, you need a policy that provides full cover for specific use.
Sorry this happened to you. Bike thefts are freequent here, although it is not at all «a bad neighborhood» (quite the contrary), and we have also had bikes stolen from a locked indoor garage. The deductible for bikes on insurances (what you must cover yourself) is pretty high, and the insurance company will in addition deduct from estimated value for each year since new. So for most it wouldn’t be much to claim even with an insurance that covers.
I can see why it really hurts - to lose transport and financially. I wouldn’t expect the host to have any responsibility to contribute (unless the host stole it, ofc) and her insurance would probably not cover your possessions.
