New beta test application and messaging update!

Our technology teams always set up a ‘sandbox’ environment for new users to beta-test changes. If we actually changed their live data in real time to test changes, we would all have lost our jobs.
The data in our Inboxes is our lifeline to historical TH info. To randomly remove it to test helps no one, and shows us how fragile our Inbox data is.

The layout is awful and time consuming to get to the profile in history.
I cannot communicate with any of my planned sittings via the site at all. (I do have other means of communication but that is not the point - I cannot see any of our messages at all)
A limited number of inbox entries.
I am asking to come out of this test as it is dangerous-worry of losing all my 14 years of history

My understanding when signing up for this was that they wanted people who use the inbox a lot and would be using it frequently during the testing phase. For those of us who use it frequently, limiting the inbox to the 20 most recent emails means we have to take communications for upcoming sits to email or WhatsApp which entirely defeats the purpose of the testing.

I’m part of the test group and only ever use the app, it wasn’t clear when I signed up that the test was for use on the website only :frowning: so sadly I will have to withdraw.

I have given my reason on the withdrawal form. Shame.

Oh my goodness. I’ve just looked at my new in box and haven’t a clue what’s going on or where I am. Please restore my in box to how it was originally and remove me from the test @Jenny

There is no explanation about what is new or different. It asked for feedback so I sent
that I can’t see profile pictures and I only see a few inbox messages. ‘Shrug’

I noticed that the minimum length of an application is now 50 characters.

The instruction still does not say anything that there is no hurry in order to be among the first five.

It’s great how messages from sits that I was not selected for say ‘rejected’ on the right side next to the message. That’s a little harsh, ‘declined’ might be a little more appropriate. The messages for confirmed sits say “Nice work! You’re confirmed for Mary’s sit” with a weird rocket ship next to it. Cute if your members are children, but totally unnecessary for adults.

The box at the bottom to reply to conversations that have already been started should really open up to a larger box when you click on it to make it more functional for composing a message.

I think the box that opens when you go to apply to a sit should also be bigger. It says minimum of 50 characters which is not very much and then has a very small box. It does get longer when you get to the end of the box, but when new people see min 50 characters and a very small text box, they may think the applications should be very short. I don’t think that’s what hosts want to see.

Overall, with these issues and the severe data loss due to only allowing 20 messages in the inbox, I don’t think the new messaging system is quite ready for the beta testing phase yet.

Same for me. Wondered why I didnt see much difference except for the color of the ‘read’ message.

@systaran I’m thinking the minimum 50 characters is to stop those one or two word applications to secure one of the 5 spots .

@temba exactly my thoughts :thinking:

Sadly it won’t really fix the underlying problem however. Even if automated, all they of need to do is adjust the message. And for the 'on their phone all day peeps…a longer cut and paste generic message.

@Daisy999 Where was the withdrawal form? I sent a l email in reply to the one they sent at the start of the trial but it was a “no-reply” and bounced. Says feedback will be a “survey” at the end. (And we all know how much notice they take of them!)

Exactly @Timshazz!

@temba It seems the team dont do a consequence analysis of changes. If we change this, how will people change their behaviour to cope/get around/deal with the change. (And is that more or less desirable?) Also impact…what impact does this have on the majority of ‘good players?’

Hi there. When I logged onto the desktop site (on my phone), I looked at the dashboard and the message about it being a new style and that they welcome feedback, I clicked ‘find out more’ and saw this.

H

ope it helps.

@temba I agree, I’m sure the 50 word min is to stop one word apps. But I think stating it’s a 50 word minimum coupled with the very small text box encourages one sentence apps. Maybe they could make the text box larger and include instructions such as ‘tell the host why you are the perfect sitter for their pets.’
