I live in Calgary, Alberta - I have an Alexandrine Parakeet at the moment but mostly I want to go take care of your birds, and also love cats. Not much experience with dogs except having had a little guy as a child. I may or may not be sitting along with my husband - I have fostered animals for rescues in the area for many years mostly cats and birds. I have hosted African Grey’s, Amazon, Caiques, Cockatiels and the glorious Umbrella Cockatoo.
@TinasTV we adopted an elderly Alexandrine Parakeet years ago and he was a lovely character. We also used to look after our friends’ African Grey when they went on holiday. We haven’t yet managed to care for any parrots through THS yet, but have looked after lots of other pets!
Are you a paid up member of TSH as yet? Once you’ve joined you can add your TSH profile into your Forum profile here and you can ask more experienced sitters for feedback which I found incredibly useful as a newbie. (Use the Forum search box on how to do this)
I don’t know very much about caring for caged birds- we had various budgies growing up, and I’ve taken care of chickens.
Your experience with all those birds sounds amazing, you’ve definitely got the magic touch! Cats and birds are lucky to have you around. And who knows, maybe you’ll pick up some dog-sitting skills along the way too. Whether it’s just you or with your hubby, the animals are in great hands. Cheers to many happy sits!
Thank you I loved birds since we had a budgie growing up - when I was older I lived near a Parrot shop in Edmonton called Tiffany’s - no longer exists - but I’d stop in there on my way home from work most days and talk and play with their parrots which were on a huge playground in the middle of the store ! lol - and eventually took home my own first pet - a white-eyed conure.
And I thought my three birds were a lot! What an amazing sitting opportunity. My husband and I are looking for sitters with experience with parrots. I’m responding to your post in hopes that parrot-partial people reply. We’d love to use THs more and really hope we can connect with people who enjoy sitting for parrots. Any chance you might be one?
Hi Tina, thank you for the reply. Take a look for my name - Carolyn - And listing for “gorgeous mid century modern” to see more. I’ve also sent you a private invite on THs. Did you receive?
