Newly signed up

Hello Everyone
I have just signed up to hopefully find someone to come and explore Derbyshire whilst House and Pet sitting.
I have sent messages to several all having refused.
Yes I do have 6 dogs, but they require very little care, snuggles, no routine.
But they love cuddles on sofa in evening.
Use to being left 6 hours.

Any advice as it’s a lot of money to spend if not gonna get a service

Welcome @Rishy

Invitations don’t usually work - usually sitters see your listing and apply to you . These will be sitters who are looking for a dog sit in Derbyshire.

I’ve searched for Derbyshire and can’t see a listing with 6 dogs. Have you made the dates public ? Or just sent private invitations?

If you add your listing to your forum profile ( or ask an admin to do so ) you can get some feedback and suggestions to make your listing attractive to sitters .

Welcome to the forum, @Rishy !

Yes, you need to publish your dates so sitters can apply. You can add a link to it on your forum profile. Here’s a link to how you can do it:

How to add a listing or profile link to your FORUM profile - Welcome & Getting Started - TrustedHousesitters Community Forum

Be sure to include the info most sitters look for:

Why should a sitter visit your area, what is there to see/ do?

How to get to your place by public transport, if any (nearest train station etc. If not, if you can pick up at airport, station it is helpful to say that already in the profile).

Grocery store, baker etc. + Where to find - walkable?

Include photos of bathroom, kitchen and sitters bedroom incl. size of bed

Be precise of the dogs’ daily schedule and the specific tasks with walk, food other or other tasks. Imoprtant: How long they can be left for outings of the sitter.

A sit of 6 dogs is of course a handful, so if you put yourself in the sitters shoes and can think of something that would be nice, include it. For instance pick up at station, if a friend or neighbor could help out (for instance if the sitter would visit a site and need to be gone a whole day to go there??), or if you don’t ecpect a full house clean if the sitter just tidy up after themselves.

You will find good advice here if you wish to have some feedback on your profile.

As mentioned, invites have a very low success rate. Many sitters are not interested in sitting in their local area, plus the sitter calendar doesn’t function (sitters cannot input their personal availability), so most invites are sent to sitters that are actually unavailable for your dates in the first place. Gaining applicants is the most successful way to securing a sitter on THS, and for this you need a highly attractive and detailed listing. To be honest, 6 dogs is a handful and will limit sitter interest, but there may be some interested as long as you balance the dog care tasks with compelling descriptions of why somebody should sit for you and visit your area. You may definitely want to describe your sit as being ideal for couples, as a single sitter is highly unlikely to want to take on 6 dogs on their own, especially for dog walking duties. If you link your listing as described, members can help & give feedback.

A key point to remember about THS is that it is a free, mutually beneficial exchange with no money changing hands, so for somebody to want to come and care for 6 dogs unpaid, there needs to be a clear indication of what a sitter would be gaining from this exchange and how it would be benefitting them - what would they be getting out of it?

Here is a blog you can read to ensure your listing has the best chance of success:

Hope that helps!

@Rishy Please also include pics of living room, garden and of the property itself. Detail any health or behavioural issues relating to the dogs so that you get applications from sitters who are informed, and well-matched with your requirements.

Consider your travel plans and, if you intend making an early departure or late return, think about whether it might be better for sitters to arrive the day before your departure or leave the day following your return, and detail this in the listing.

Mostly, please understand that this is a mutually-beneficial arrangement and not a paid service, so welcome your sitter as you would a visiting friend and ensure your home is a clean and welcoming space.

As has already been mentioned, if you add a link to your listing in your profile, we can better advise.

My profile is very explanatory of all the things listed above.
Plus I state whilst the no 6 is a lot. They are prob less bother than 1 big dog. Very chilled out they are.
Don’t matter whether you walk or not. Can walk just 1 a day.
1 meal time for all. Fine being left 6 hours.
They play themselves.
Don’t get much easier

I would still strongly suggest making your profile available for review as there are a lot of things that sitters look for that you may not think of as a HO or things you might say that would turn people off. If you’re not willing to optimize your profile for what sitters are looking for, you’ll likely have a much lower chance of success.

It’s great that it sounds easy, but unfortunately the very fact that 6 dogs are listed (can be seen straight away in the listing’s preview before a sitter has even clicked your listing) will automatically be a ‘skip’ for many. You cannot compare the work of 1 large dog to 6 smaller dogs, no matter how ‘easy’ they are, and they will never equivalate eachother; managing 6 is a huge difference to managing 1 with totally different dynamics!

To help, linking your listing so we can see & give feedback will really improve your chances. Things like your cover photo & title play a big role in whether somebody will click your listing or not, especially when they see 6 dogs listed.

I’ve had a look on the site and i can’t see a listing in Derbyshire for 6 dogs

Totally with all the other sitters on here @Rishy - fab that your six are low maintenance but 6 is 6. My folks have four impeccably behaved working labradors and they are still full on. Great advice to link your profile if you want an on the ground insight into what would win you a fab sitter. #devilsinthedetailafterall

Hi, welcome to the community.
The thing is, you don’t have to convince us—you have to create a listing that’s captivating enough for people to want to read more. Plenty of great advice on how to do that in the forum.
Sitters have the choice among 100’s of listings, you must give them a reason to choose YOURS!

A couple of people here have mentioned that are unable to find your listing: have you posted the dates? is it active?

It is all posted and live do not know why folk can’t find it.
But hey ho my decision to have this many beautiful dogs.
So going to cancel membership and stay with my dogs

Don’t give up @Rishy, there are plenty of people here willing to help you - you just have to link your listing so we can view it. If you’re not sure how, you can get @Jenny or @Carla to help you

Hi @Rishy

I’ve been able to locate your listing - is it ok for me to add a link to your Forum profile so that our members can take a look?

Jenny

I have seen a sit advertised in Cumbria for 6 working sheepdogs as well as several sits for 5 dogs.

Just applied for cancellation. Can’t do with stress and begging for help

I’m sorry that’s the case @Rishy - if you ever change your mind in future you’re welcome to come back and get some advice from the Forum.

I’ll close this discussion to new replies now that you’ve confirmed your decision to cancel.
