Which of the two are you?
I’m a morning person. Early starts are a lot easier for me than late nights. If I stay up past midnight, I usually don’t feel good the next day.

Morning, up usually around 5am
I am a morning person for sure. And when I am staying in warmer areas where the sun rises early, I get up particularly early. I have been in Costa Rica for the last two months and am up by 5-5:30 most days, and out walking the dog by 5:45, 6 at the latest. I am really liking this schedule of early to bed, early to rise and getting in my exercise first thing in the morning. I may have bouts where I go to bed later but I never feel as good overall even when I get the same amount of sleep, so I try to nip them in the bud and get back to earlier nights.
Definitely not a morning person. Don’t usually get up till 0830 and like to lounge around having coffee and checking emails till I feel awake. I’m very careful about applying on sits where there are dogs that need early morning walking - love sits where the dogs can run out into the backyard in the morning. One of my very first house sits was in the Yukon in June where the sun is out for 24 hours. I totally lost track of the time and realized if was after midnight while out walking the dog. Perfect location for a night owl in the Summer
I’ve been both. And with age, I need less and less shut eye, so if I fall asleep early, that’s going to make me an early bird no matter whether I have a preference or not.
I need only five hours or so nowadays, versus when I was younger and needed eight or nine. And I’ve done work for decades where I’ve not had to set an alarm, so I’ve been able to sleep naturally, as my body demands.
Both for me- as I’m hyperactive and only ever sleep for 5/6 hours. I’m rarely in bed before midnight otherwise I’ll wake up at 4/5am raring to go… I’ve slowed down a little bit now I’m 65…. but still have the energy of 2 people. Hubby likes that I’m busy volunteering: dog walking/museum/city guide as it wears me out sufficiently to not be ‘too annoying’ at home
@BonnyinBrighton
Wow! Sounds like you’re a perfect fit for house and pet sitting!
Early starts, lots of energy…
I was a teacher for most of my career plus we had horses…. so I would wake up our son, do the horses, get ready for work, drop him at school, go to work all between 6am and 8am. Then the same in reverse between 4pm and 7pm including make dinner/supervise his homework …. then do all my school preparation between 9pm and midnight…. weekends we got up very early around 4am to load up the trailers to go to horse shows! Those were very happy times
I don’t like mornings. It’s not that I’m sleepy (I’m fully awake as soon as I wake up), but I just don’t like being out and about early mornings. So I’m a slow starter. And I find it hard to go to bed before midnight. By the way, my favourite time of the day for being outside, exercising, is at sunset, just love the light at that time of the day.
Def a morning person myself. Usually up naturally (no alarm) between 6 & 7am and find myself most productive from morning into the early afternoon.
Definitely agree with your habits @Globetrotter, that’s me to a tee! Also the long daylight thing is soooo hard. Currently in France and at 10pm the sun is still shining. (At home the sun would be down by 5pm now). My body clock is struggling to adjust so early mornings just don’t cut it for me. Bring on cats who don’t have to walk so sleepy hoomans can laze in
I’m also starting to lean towards cats as well for that particular reason
Morning person for sure, love the summer when the sun is up by 5am.
Don’t ask me to do anything that requires more than 10 brain cells after 8pm though…
Night owl. I love doing my work in the evening, perfectly fine to work till midnight or later. Will absolutely avoid getting up early if there’s no pressing reason to do so as I have no idea what to do with myself at 6 or 7am - just not a time my brain likes to function beyond the essentials
Neither. I’m just genetically lazy.
@Oztravels
Homeowners take note
Where abouts in France, sunset in Paris is about 21:30?
@Hallt64 in Dordogne, so I was just being lazy writing 10 pm instead of 9.30 pm, seemed easier, just half hour difference. I’m like Oztravels, I CAN be genetically lazy
Oh no! I’ve doxed myself
I thought maybe there was a French colony somewhere way above the Arctic Circle.
