No reference

I recently noted that some HO will not consider you if you did not have a reference from every house sit you have done.
As someone who has done about 50 sits across different sites, I commented that it was impossible to have a reference from every sit (though all the references I have are 5 star).
Someone replied saying it was east to get 50 good references, you just had to be nice. They clearly have never had flights delayed or changed at the last minute, got caught up in a train or flight strike or met people who do not give references.
Inevitably, especially given flight chaos since covid, sometimes travel plans go wrong.

Is that true? I’ve never heard of that! And how would they know as it doesn’t appear on the sitter’s record if a homeowner hasn’t left a review - although it will show a blank on the homeowners if you don’t review them. That’d be some serious trawling through to do and perhaps impssible. If someone said that and I didn’t meet their criteria I’d respect their wishes even if I didnt think it really made sense and would move on to other sits!

I wouldn’t get too bunged up about it . People have all kinds of reasons why they do or don’t choose their sitters/sits. I’ve read perspectives from sitters here who feel the same about HOs and missing reviews.

If an HO takes the time to figure out that you’ve a bunch of great reviews but are missing some, it sounds like they are incredibly fussy and maybe you are lucky to not go there anyway.

If it were as simple as “being nice”…. :woman_facepalming:t4:
It’s like saying that if you’re nice, you get along with everyone, when the reality is that there are personalities out there that won’t not jive with yours.
Simple fact of life that even kindergarteners can figure out.

Where did you get that information as I very much doubt it’s true. The only reference so far that I haven’t had (across 3 sites) was a sit that was cancelled because of the pandemic! If you’ve done so many sits you’ll no doubt have lots of reviews that were done. Houseowners are unlikely to have the time to trawl through to count how many you haven’t had. I usually send a link to reviews from other sites in my application.
The fact that your travel plans have been disrupted for various reasons shouldn’t mean you don’t get a review as owners are most,y concerned that their pets & house are looked after. As long as you keep the owners informed of any delay they can make other arrangements until you get there. We have to use our initiative

I hope that isn’t true, because now the 2 week review window is in place it is very likely that some reviews just don’t take place in time.

@Smiley I have asked this before but still don’t know. How do you send a link to other sites you use???

Actually it’s been the THS link I’ve mainly been sending to other sites which is easy, just copy the top of the review page and paste. Not quite so easy the other way around but most of my reviews are THS anyway

Didn’t know that, thanks :+1:

@Pepper40 homeowners cannot see that you didn’t get a review from a house sit. They only see the sits that you did get a review from. They can’t see the sits where no review was given.

As an HO, that sounds like a ridiculous expectation to me. I would not be concerned if an HO did 50 sits and didn’t have 50 reviews.

And actually as an HO, about half of the HS we’ve had did not leave a review, which was annoying, especially concerning they communicated that they thoroughly enjoyed the sit and one was even a repeat.

I realise it’s HO side but it has not hindered people from sitting for us, as the reviews we do have speak loud and clear about us, our dog, and our home.

@Silversitters …
I’m not following.

Are you referring to THS for the process of confirmed and completed sits not showing on both parties profiles save forva glitch?

@HelloOutThere I will try and explain myself :slightly_smiling_face:.

**On the app …**On a homeowners listing you can see all the past sitters and see if they left a review or not .( This doesn’t show on the web page )

On a sisters profile ( app and web page) you see only reviews that have been left .There is no way to see past sits that they have done . So if a sit has happened but no review was left you won’t know .( A sitter may have 11 reviews but they have actually done 20 sits . A HO won’t know about the 9 additional sits that took place all they can see is that there have been 11 sits ).

OP says

Since a HO doesn’t know from THS how many house sits a sitter has done ; they also don’t know how many “missing” reviews there are .

@Silversitters interesting.
I was under the impression that as long as a confirmed sit was complete, each party showed up up each other’s listing/profile and either there was a completed review or blank, if not completed by one of the parties.

I read the OP as not having a “review” from every sit as in some of the the OP’s reviews were blank.

@Sam_F or @Maeve … could we get clarification on this topic?
Tx!

@HelloOutThere

Whilst every member can see all their own past sits on their own personal dashboard/ profile . This is not what is visible to other members looking at a sitters profile .

This discrepancy was previously discussed here and clarification sought from moderators but none was forthcoming at the time !

My understanding ( which is very limited) is that a homeowner’s listing is programmed to show all past sits where as a sitters profile is show only reviews received. So there is nowhere ( visible to other members)on a sitters profile that shows their past sits only a place for reviews received .

Hi @HelloOutThere and thank you for tagging me to this post. However for clarification regarding this issue you would need to contact Membership Services as previously mentioned by @Therese in the thread titled Why can’t owners see if a sitter has no review after a sit
