No Review Blues

I hope you let us know how it ends!

Yes, this is a valid point as weā€™re always getting on onslaught of surveys etc these days.

By other factors at play, my main thought was that there can tend to be a bit of a stand-off where neither party necessarily wants to go first with the review just in case it may contain something less than flattering. People donā€™t like to leave themselves vulnerable by going first which I completely understand. I know this has been discussed to the nth degree on other threads though so Iā€™ll not get into that again here!

Yes, that too.

And there is this incomprehensible asymmetry on THS, that missing reviews are only visible for sitters (when using the app), not for home owners. That is not fair.

Thatā€™s a very good way of putting it. On my THS app, I am actually able to see where a HO has had a previous sitter and that sitter has not reviewed them. I do know that there are some definite discrepancies with the app though without a doubt.

@wendywindow - As the HO has already, kinda, written their Feedback (above), you could ask them to simply copy and paste it onto the THS website. You could ā€œmassageā€ it a bit for them, but keep it essentially the same. And remind them to click the 5*s.

You could then thank them in advance for their Feedback, noting as others have said, itā€™s what attracted them to you and will continue to attract future prospective HOs.

Oof, Wendy, I am sorry. I donā€™t see how anyone could be on THS without understanding how critical the reviews are, not just for the sitters but for the whole ecosystem of the network. I think @Cuttlefish has a great suggestion, which assumes good intent but will hopefully get the review you want and deserve.

OTOHā€¦

[emphasis mine] I really donā€™t think thatā€™s behavior to admire or emulate. Yikes.

Sorry for these extra hurdles youā€™ve had to jump, @wendywindow. But yes, please let us know how it goes. I presume you havenā€™t left feedback for them yet? I would definitely hold off until they write your review. And if they still donā€™t want to write your review after the letter you just wrote them, let us know and Iā€™m sure weā€™ll have more ideas! (I do.)

And yes, at the very least, you know something to clarify before confirming a sit.

Iā€™m sorry you are experiencing this. We as owners understand the importance of a review so we try to do the public review, soon after we get back. We have however had 1 sitter ask us. We just got busy in life and didnā€™t get to it until then. And yes we reviewed them right away! They were wonderful sitters.
I donā€™t understand owners not wanting to review. Itā€™s such an important part of the equation!

HI Loree

Wish all owners were as thoughtful as you :hugs: I have been inspired to go back to the owner and ask him to go the next step in at least transcribing what he wrote in his text
to the review link so I can keep my reviews current and updated Thankyou Wendy

Thanks Geoff
I have written a good letter asking the homeowner essentially to go that extra step in transcribing what he wrote in his text to the site review link explaing how he will be helping me out by keeping my reviews current and explaining to him the importance of this to the best functioning of the system for all parties and also letting him know once a review goes up I will be happy to leave one for him which will stand him in good stead for attracting good sitters in the future I have been inspired by poeples suggestions and encouragement in this forum and I will definately report back via this thread on my progress THankyouā€‹:hugs::pray::grin: Wendy

Let us know how it turns out. Hopefully the HO will comply with your polite request. In the future, perhaps add this to your list of questions during the interview, and/or put in your profile that you appreciate sitting for homeowners who will commit to writing a review for your sit.

Hello @wendywindow I like your name

I find myself in a similar situation but on the opposite end of the spectrum as a HO. Recently, I had a positive experience with our last sitter just a few weeks ago. However, it seems sheā€™s gone off the radar. What struck me was the absence of writing any reviews for the HOā€™s in her previous sits - something I missed initially (and now my responsibility to be on the look out for). During our initial conversations and video call, we had a good feeling about her and the actual sit went really well.

She had to leave before our arrival due to an early morning flight the next day, but had a heartwarming conversation with her. She sounded genuinely happy and grateful about the experience she had with our dog and raved about how comfortable and pleasant everything was. We expressed our gratitude and told her we would welcome her back. She even said she would write us a review but now I feel like Iā€™m being ghosted. Iā€™ve contacted her twice via text in the past week (nothing too wordy), and in the last text, I asked her if we had done or said anything negative to upset her, as weā€™d appreciate any constructive feedback. I followed up through the THS messaging system. Itā€™s been a week and no response. Iā€™ve noticed that my message remains marked as ā€˜unreadā€™ on both the site and the app. She did tend to be a bit slow in responding before, but she always did eventually reply. We got along great. I really hope sheā€™s okay and perhaps sheā€™s doing another sit and hasnā€™t found the time to respond or write a review. Idk.

Sometimes people just need time. Our one review came 4 weeks later. Iā€™ve given up already. Maybe sheā€™s sick. I know itā€™s hard, but just let it go. It might come as a surprise one unexpected day.

@botvot - it would appear that when the new review system comes in to play there will be a two week window in which to give a review (both sitter and homeowner). I feel there will be more missing reviews than previously. We will have to wait and see :crossed_fingers:

@Twitcher Yes, I understand. I guess they had to draw the line somewhere. This will also prevent old, negative reviews from suddenly cropping up. But alas, it will also not allow for old positive reviews to be given. I guess itā€™s a ā€˜speak now or forever hold your peaceā€™ situation.

Exactly @botvot and I am hoping that the change is communicated to all members at the same time.
No-one wants a repeat of the roll out of the five application rule.

Or in general lack of gratitude from the owners. I bet they would value it more if it was a paid service. Some people really feel entitled lool

Some STILL donā€™t know about the 5 app rule to this day. You try and find it anywhere on the website.

I believe this to be true.
When I posted dates a year ago, I think I found someone right away and dinā€™t realize it, but when I listed dates again late last year for February dates, I still didnā€™t know for for a few days.
It is then I also realized that sitters were just applying without reading because they just wanted to get in before the 5-limit rule. Some never replied back and the majority were just not a good fit. I was so confused as to why my ad had been put on pause. I donā€™t recall ever getting an email about this change though. Iā€™ve looked everywhere and no where to be found.
