Has anyone successfully claimed through the Sit Cancellation Plan?
My upcoming sit was just cancelled by the pet parent due to their dog’s health issues (13 days before the sit). Support confirmed I’m eligible for the cancellation plan (up to $150/night, max $1500 per sit), but mentioned they “cannot pre-approve claims.”
I’m considering booking an Airbnb for 5 nights, approximately $716 total, but concerned about:
How long did your reimbursement take?
Did you receive the full amount (minus the $150 contribution)?
Any issues with Airbnb bookings?
Any tips for ensuring successful claim?
What documentation did they require?
Bit nervous about paying upfront without guaranteed reimbursement.
I can understand this. However, what alternatives do you have? It’s worth looking for other sits, if this would feel like a lesser risk (and is certainly something we’ve had to do previously, when a sit was cancelled on the day of arrival).
Also, if there are other sits available for the same dates within the same area then you need to show evidence you’ve applied for them @eddy90 (or that you’ve applied and you weren’t successful or that there aren’t any sits nearby for your cancelled dates). Definitely read the thread that @Silversitters mentions, both they and us, have recently made successful claims and been paid back within 14 days of the claim. #tsandcstime
You’ll probably need to apply for them (& be refused) if you’re going to make a claim @eddy90. If there are sits nearby then that is the option THS are going to suggest as solution A to the cancellation. #asksupporttobesure
I had a cancellation recently but didn’t feel I could trust them to cover the costs. Too many things are ambiguous. I had the plane tickets and a night at a hotel prior to the flight booked. The hotel wasn’t cancelable and the flight cost $200 to change. Then, since there were no other sits in the area, I would have had to book a place within 25 miles of the original sit which I had no particular interest in spending that much time there not sitting but there is no guidelines on how long I would have to wait to book a hotel waiting for a sit to appear. I ate the cost of the hotel room, the additional cost of the flight, and the cost of an airbnb for the time. Fortunately, we were in southern Italy in October so the airbnb was much more reasonable at the time-$39 a night on the coast.
I didn’t want to spend the $ and hope they would look favorably on me and cover the cost. Plus it made me decide the premium service wasn’t worth the extra cost.
@eddy90 I do hope you listen to the forum members who have given you first hand experience on this matter rather than the assumptions you are receiving on another can’t be named online site.
