@Visit , if you use the app you can see all previous sitters and any “missing” reviews.
The website doesn’t show the full picture . On the website you may see one review and assume they’ve only had one sitter previously; whereas the app may show eight previous sitters with only one who has left a review .
A review is like respect for free service. I did a sit with a really tough dog. The owner didn’t leave a review although we did a great job, home was left immaculate. Then… weeks later they invited me to sit there again. I declined immediately.
@Starsitter I can understand why you might have been a little put out, but is it possible they were new and did not understand the review process, or were very busy upon return (work, family obligations, etc,) where it actually just slipped their mind?
@Starsitter was it perhaps a new homeowner who didn’t know or understand how to leave a review. Did you request a review from them on THs or send them a WhatsApp or similar to ask?
As @Debbie-L just pointed out, sometimes things come up, perhaps a family emergency or suchlike and it slipped their mind with everything else going on. Have you tried to reach out to them since?
Hi @pietkuip I checked with a recent homeowner we sat for and they received a “pop up” reminder to leave a review when they signed in to their THS account
Another vote for a prompt to ask home owners to post a review promptly after a sit, thanks! At the end of the day that’s the exchange for free services as it opens up more opportunities for the sitter.
Don’t rely on a HO writing a review without prompting- just send a review request via the site after the sit. We’ve always done that and then follow up with a WhatsApp message to alert them to the request. Many HO will not be on the THS site again till they next need a sitter so may not get alerts about it and also may just forget all about a review once they are back to normal life again. For the HO the sit is finished when they return and all is good. For sitters the completion of the sit is the receipt of a (hopefully fabulous!) review!
In the case you mention you could also have asked them- on receiving the 2nd invitation- why they had not given a review previously? They might have apologised and immediately written one in which case you may have felt more inclined to accept the sit! They obviously liked you otherwise they wouldn’t have invited you again- sometimes its worth investigating!
@Starsitter that’s really frustrating. That HO either didn’t know how important the reviews are for a sitter or said “oh well I’m too busy” But you’re right, sitters work for reviews especially in the beginning
Well, I ended up taking the sit anyway, even though I was very nervous about it. I think I understand why many sitters did not leave a review. The dogs can be a handful but I love dogs and I like these dogs. I am having a great time with them, but I am sure that not all sitters would be thrilled with their rambunctiousness. But for me, they are great.
I am not expecting any reviews from the host since this seems to be their style. They have mentioned that they have had great experiences with THS, so I am not sure why they do not review. Especially since it seems they need good reviews, to attract good sitters.
@SunshineAndAloha Do not just wait for a review! Actively pursue it! Send the review request from THS & follow up with a WhatsApp msg. Even if they don’t generally review tell them how important it is to you! Reassure them they don’t have to write a lot- just a few nice comments but the 5* everywhere is important. And wait for your review before giving feedback especially if you want to mention the dogs are a bit of ahandful! Good luck!
I would say, “Don’t bend over backwards trying to earn a great review, if the track record is that they don’t leave reviews.” You might get a “feel” for this during your Sit. If the Owners really don’t seem to care what is going on in THEIR home while they are gone, then I would definitely not kill yourself at the end, trying to leave the best impression.
