Review crashed?!?!

Just spent a full hour crafting a thoughtful review for my most recent wonderful hosts. Submitted it…and the app crashed, with no acknowledgement that my review(s) were submitted. Re-started the app…& was offered the opportunity to rate & review my most recent sit. (Go ahead — please ask me just how :exploding_head: I am.)

Yes, I suppose I should have thought to copy-paste the text somewhere after carefully reviewing it, “JUST IN CASE.”

On the other hand — WHY SHOULD ONE HAVE TO ANTICIPATE THAT WE CAN’T EVEN SUBMIT A BASIC REVIEW WITHOUT THE APP CRASHING & LOSING IT?

Suspect this has something to do with the latest addition of the “internal-only recommendation” code as I’ve never had this happen before, but curious if anyone else has had the issue as well…

…the what…?
That must’ve been quite a review. I can imagine you are frustrated!
Having lousy internet to start with, and having had my e-mail eat very long messages before I had quite finished, and generally always needing to reread and review and edit, I always write anything long or important in notepad and paste. Wouldn’t do anything of length on my phone, because it takes like 3x as long to correct all the phone dictation errors
Sorry this comment won’t help you much…! …was just curious what the recommendation code thing is.

Yes, I know better, but was tired & hit the submit before doing the super-duper triple-protection step that I shouldn’t have to do, but do anyway. Now I’m too angry to do anything other than look for someone’s hair to pull out in retribution. :face_with_steam_from_nose::face_with_symbols_on_mouth:

This is the new feature, which means code was added to the review submission process, which means one more place where something got changed that could cause something to go wrong if it wasn’t tested properly before being rolled out to a production system:

(Of course it could have just been an unrelated fluke…but given the issues we’ve seen with recent updates, my confidence levels are less than they might be otherwise.)

I’m really sorry this happened. I’m not going to tell you what you already know and admitted in your OP because I couldn’t agree more with this

I don’t think at this point anyone can expect otherwise.

It’s never happened to me with reviews because I always copy-paste but it’s happened with applications, several times and it’s really frustrating. In some cases, I just lost the opportunity because they were already on review mode.

Thank you @Newpetlover & @ABGM for the empathy; a number of related & unrelated circumstances contributing to my frustration, & I’m at my worst when I know I could have prevented the issue (even if I feel I shouldn’t have had to. :frowning:)

Beyond my bluster, the relevant questions I have:

For the dev team: could the recent deployment of the ‘internal recommendation’ feature have contributed to or caused this to occur?

For other sitters/hosts: have you noticed an increase in crashes/lost review content when writing reviews since this new feature got rolled out? (Although I recognize most people probably aren’t writing reviews in the app on their iPhone, as it’s not the most efficient way to do it vs using the web interface on a computer.)

And now I really AM going to bed…:winking_face_with_tongue:

I write my Review in Notes on my phone whilst we’re on the sit, then do a quick edit and copy and paste the day after when I’ve left the sit. It reduces risk.

yes, you are not alone, I had this issue before while writing a review, and like @Newpetlover while applying to a sit. I lost a few sit opportunities, even though I had clicked on the listing before it being under reviewing application, so I totally understand your pain.

This happened to me a week or so ago. Clear your “cookies, cache, and other site data” within the app and if on the web in your browser. If you haven’t rebooted your device in awhile do that too.

I’ve had the same thing happen with applications. That’s why I send a quick placeholder message before writing a full application. I know that theoretically the application stays open when I am writing it, but there are too many potential points of failure - the app crashing, my internet disconnecting, my device crashing, etc

Ahh, OK, thanks. I remember that discussion.
I suppose any tinkering with the algorithms could cause something else to glitch. Hope you were able to finish a review you were happy with.

Yeah, that’s a good idea. I’ve done it a couple of times because I thought the 5-application limit might kick in and it would take me quite a bit longer to write an application, glitches or no. I just say something like “I will write you a proper introduction as soon as I fire up my laptop and can type properly.”

That’s super frustrating @MerryPuppins - so sorry to hear this!

Could you please pop me a DM with your User ID and I’ll pass some details to the team?
